He didn’t really announce. Andrew Jones just asked him a question and he said he was planning on coming back. But that was before his meeting with Malone.

It doesn’t take a lot of tea leaves reading to realize that Malone told him that he was not in the plans for next year.

i think he was up for a huge salary(and likely role) reduction.

Been thinking that Malone actually has a pretty amazing way to sell Carolina (more than the whole NBA championship thing).

How many other coaches can truthfully relate to a parent who is looking at a school with their kid? And same for the recruit, MM can legitimately say his kid just made the same decision and picked UNC.

The Malone family had a kid with her pick of many elite athletic/academic institutions and they chose Carolina. MM himself stated part of reason he took the job is how much they loved it when they were here.

I get that $ talks in this era, more than any other. But assuming we can be on equal footing for a given player on that, i just think MM has a chance to be a beast of a recruiter, and frankly that was one of my biggest initial concerns with his hiring.
