UNC basketball 2026 transfer portal

Fine with losing Mingo and Bogavac to an extent. Losing Dixon stings. Understand he had his flaws, only so much money to go around, maybe the fit wasn’t right with what we’re targeting from the portal, etc. but his size and skillset might be tough to replace. He seemed like a guy that could have really grown into a big role with a few seasons of experience.

I meant that there 12 or so teams vying for the title every year.

We know that's been the case in CFB forever.
Except that now it will be tied to the same dozen teams with the highest payroll, as the increasing prices will leave only the same handful of schools in the running every single year.

HD grossly overpaid for Mingo for a one year contract when he’s been injured the past year. Can’t trust pg position to a freshman coming off an injury.

Mingo would have been great in year 2 or 3 in the program but those days are Gone Wifh The Wind.

So now job #1 is finding a pg who can fit our team next season better than Mingo (or at least in a competent fashion).

This really is the wildest west of any free agency scheme I have ever even imagined, in any sport. As exhausted as I already am as a fan, holy schnikees what it must be like to deal with that shit every offseason as a coaching staff

That assumes the teams with the highest payroll will be the same every year, which is the not necessarily the case.

But to Bigs' point - long before NIL UK dominated the SEC, Kansas dominated the Big 12, UNC and Duke dominated the ACC. It's the default state of college sports to have a handful of dominant teams separated from everyone else.

Don’t disagree (I pine for a return of the “Sail With The Pilot” era but it ain’t coming back) but we have to deal with the realities at hand.

Yea but that was fun when we were good :)
How do you think the SEC Football coaches feel when much richer BIG schools win all the Nattys now

Well, maybe we can get him back in a year or two. That doesn’t seem to be out of question with the portal.

I’ll tune in when the roster is close to set (August/September?).

I’m good with the players getting $$$.

This mess?

Don’t care for it.

7 more days for players to "enter" the portal. Do you think there are some players out there who are contemplating the portal who've yet to enter? I guess there will be a handful who enter late because their coach just "recruited over them" by signing some new dude.
Is that what Luca did? Didn't he declare he was staying put at UNC, only to jump ship days later? Why? I'm not saying I'm going to miss him, just curious as to the timing.

I'm always curious about the Dalton Knechts, Harrison Ingrams and Brady Maneks of the college basketball world. Heck, even Elliot Cadeau... who had him as FF MOP on their bingo card this time last year? Nobody, that's who.

I believe that one was simply a matter of compensation
Agree - Luka said he wanted to come back but after how season 1 went, there was no way UNC was going to match that salary and role in season 2. These things cut both ways. Players can go shop themselves after a good season for raises, but they also have to produce to that level or they'll be moving from the likes of UNC to the likes of Oklahoma State.

I’ve seen about three clips of Terrence Brown now. Intriguing player, at least

Three level scorer. The type that last year’s roster certainly lacked

Not sure you want him as a #1 or 2 option but should fit well in a balanced offense

I assume he hasn’t played a lot of high level defense over his career but the tools are there

I'm wondering if sometime in the near future schools will understand the value of continuity and put in team options or other incentives that helps keep players over time.
I just don't see how this can continue without public multi year contracts the same way pro sports operates. The very top players are the only ones who will always benefit from the current wild west setup.
