I'm telling you; the landscape is about to change drastically, again. Whole bunch of rosters are going to have to figure out how to make space. Realistically, roster sizes will also need to be increased to offset an extra year of eligibility.
Another change that will make me less interested in college sports.

Do current rules still apply different rules to "grad transfers" vs. other transfers? I have no idea. But treating transfers have an undergraduate degree at the school from which they are transferring differently from every other transfer doesn't make any sense at this point. There's no reason not to just have everyone go through the portal and you get five years total of eligibility to play within D1.
Who knows for sure now? I certainly don't. But my suspicion is a grad transfer can simply transfer like they used to... like when we picked up Justin Knox. However, Knox graduated in 3 years and still had another year of eligibility. But even with that, he was able to transfer to UNC without having to sit out a year like an undergrad transfer would have back then.

Today? Who knows. My best guess is that individual doesn't have to "enter" any sort of portal. I mean, they've graduated for Chrissakes.

I think 5 years will happen starting after the 26-27 season. 26-27 seniors will have a 5th season. The current 25-26 seniors will not.

My sense is that the current seniors are likely to be given a fifth season. I have no idea how that is going to play out.

Veesaar to the draft. Staff will definitely be tested now as they scramble for a replacement center, probably the toughest position to fill. Might need to hope Malone's European connections can help us find an option.

No possibility of returning?

Do his people expect him to be a to 20 pick or does position matter?

oof. That significantly lowers the ceiling for us next year. We were already questionable at the 2 and 4 and now the 5? Bummer.

He's not expected to be a top 20 pick. Usually mocked around the end of the 1st/early 2nd. If he goes second round this will look like a pretty bad decision, but it's his decision.

Agreed, lowers the ceiling for next year, unless Malone can pull a rabbit out of his hat with a Euro pro... his Euro pipeline is far better than HD's was. But IMO this will be good for us in the long run. UNC very much needs to kill our rep that we hold players back from going pro. Having both CW and HV go pro this draft will help a lot... and start Malone off on the right foot.

I definitely like the euro route. Virginia went and got two phenomenal bigs from Europe last offseason and won 30 games. I have no doubt Malone can do something similar with his connections and pedigree

It frees up an awful lot of cash. I think that cash can be used to bolster the team in important ways. Maybe we don’t get the elite stretch 5 center in Henri, but maybe we get a stronger 5 and beef up the power forward position. And we also get a good backup PG.

I was never sold on the Henri/Steveson combo and I think this gives us an opportunity to become a stronger rebounding team. I’d assume we add at least two Euros now.

hopefully won't have to go through the administrative foot dragging we had with Luka last year.
