If that's true then I'm glad he's going pro. Why would he come back for $2M less? I have my doubts about that figure as well, just saying if it's true I find it hard to believe that UNC would get a $2M incumbency benefit.
 
While I do not necessarily believe the rumor of $6M, part of me wonders if competing schools will start playing games to drive up the price to retain players... throw out big numbers they will never be able to live up to, just to drive up the cost for UNC to keep him... and thus take away from our pot for competing on other players. Granted, $6M could be true. Not that many elite centers who can hit the 3 at a 40% clip. Look how much BYU paid for Dybantsa this season...

We will easily find a better defender you and other fans are always blinded by 3pt shooting. HV is much like RJ Davis. Both could drop 30pts but give up 30 on the defensive end. No team would contend with either one. Give me a rim protector for a center any day of the week.
 
Guilty! Everytime Henri popped out beyond the arc and took a shot I had a reflexive "NO!" rise in my throat, frequently squashed by a resounding "YES!" when it went in. I remember a similar feeling when Mel Counts of the 1960's Lakers would take and hit outside shots.

First of all, you are assuming there is a great rim protector we can get, which is by no means guaranteed. I agree with you that rim protection is valuable, but there are not a bunch of elite rim protectors hanging out in the portal.

Second of all, Henri's value comes from a lot more than three-point shooting; he was an incredibly efficient offensive player (much more so than RJ Davis) who was a perfect interior offensive anchor with some passing and playmaking chops to boot. He would have likely been one of the best overall offensive players in college bball last season. It will be virtually impossible to get anyone who can come close to matching his offensive impact.

Third, you might want to look a little deeper at UNC's defensive stats last year. It was Wilson, not Veesaar, who was more of a drag on our overall team defense.

Im not a statboy I have my own two eyes and coached HS BB for 30 yrs. I do agree Caleb very rarely hustled defensively but Ive never seen a weaker 7 ft'er defensive than HV.

It's a good route to take. Word around the campfire is that Scheyer is looking to add a four for next year.

If you've never seen a weaker 7 footer defensively, then you haven't watched much basketball lol.

Just in UNC history, Serge Zwikker didn't ever remind anyone of Rasheed Wallace, know what I'm saying?

And I don't know why you say Caleb "very rarely" hustled defensively. That's not the game I watched. It's also not consistent with his 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game.

I am questioning this "coached HS BB" line.
 
$4M can buy as A LOT... especially if we do not spend it all on centers, where purchasing power goes WAY down.

I think from a financial standpoint it definitely makes more sense for someone with Veesaar’s profile to stay in college. Sometimes these guys are just ready to move on to the next stage of life though.

I didn’t realize that Veesaar is about to get married until earlier this week. 22 years old, engaged, already been in college for 4 years, not even from the US in the first place and probably doesn’t have some deep sentimental attachment to a place he’s only spent 1 year. It makes sense when you think about it.
