and I confess that I am putting myself in his shoes...
Would I want to uproot my family and my coaching staff ( assuming the staff would want to move to NC) ?
Would I want to leave a successful program that I built that is now taking the big stage ?

I would not , but I would use leverage and goose Iowa State for a boost in salary for me and my staff and a contract extension

Somebody I respect in basketball circles used this same logic to explain why Hurley may be more interested than one would think. Also his Dad had great respect for DES.

I perceive Hurley as a Northeast guy who would only leave for the Knicks or Celtics job (and Im not convinced NBA guys would respond to his style). I don't think there's a good cultural fit with him at UNC though, even though he's a great coach.

I hate it when people say this nonsense. Frank Maguire was a New Yorker and many of our best players have come from the Northeast. Hurley has a temper and cusses. In this day and age post Coach K and Maga I don’t think that is all that important anymore.

I don't want Oats but this isn't right. Oats has six straight years with a 6 seed or better, 5 of 6 with a 4 seed or better, 5 of 6 with S16 or better, 5 of 6 finished in KenPom top 14, 3 of 6 finished in KenPom top 10. If that was Hubert's track record he would still be the coach here.

Next day, I believe (April 7). I think getting the right coach, even if it means you're behind in the portal this year, is more important than not just so that you are not behind in the portal this year.

But also note, if it's one of the coaches that is coaching now (Lloyd, May, TJO), then they are already looking at players in the portal, plus they can potentially bring a few portal players and new recruits with them.

I think my gut slightly prefers TJO to Lloyd but Lloyd is probably safer and would have an easier transition. Either would be a home run. I still don't think it would be shocking for both to turn us down (but if one turned us down and went to KU instead it would really sting).

if TJO and Lloyd love their current schools I'm hoping that means they would really prefer not to coach against them twice a year at KU.
