UNC Basketball Possible coaches

I have a dental appointment this morning so I probably will not start my day drinking until after lunch, but I was fond of Everclear in my younger days. The biggest mistake I made was deciding I would replace the water in my bong with Everclear...lesson learned:oops:

as to my post I remember Frank Beamer gave us a handshake commitment to becoming our football head coach and then went back to VT and leveraged us to get a big raise for himself and his staff plus other bennies.
IIRC, he gave Dickie Baddour a handshake commitment. Dickie Baddour.

If I were to bet, I would put my money on Billy Donovan. 90% of my chips on him, 5% Byington and 5% other.

Think we hear something this weekend
Agreed. My bet in 80% Billy, 10% May, 5% Stevens and 5% other. Really think it's going to be Billy.

If we get Lloyd that would be a real coup and likely about the best we can hope for at this point among the available coaches. I'm not sold on Donovan, as he's been out of college coaching for a long while, but Lloyd is a proven college b-ball winner right now. If we don't get Lloyd I think our options become more uncertain in terms of knowing they'll be a big winner quickly - maybe they will, maybe they won't. OTOH, I feel pretty confident that Lloyd would be very successful here and would do so pretty quickly.

Lloyd could certainly save the day.

Some crazy permutations with Tommy Lloyd right now.

If Arizona chokes this game (currently up 11 at half), is he overrated? Zona hasn't made it past sweet 16 w him.

Should Zona win here but lose to a plodding Purdue team and not make the final 4, is that still a choke job?

If we really think he wants to come to UNC, what is the cut off for when Arizona has to lose so he can take over? And if the Cats win a natty, is there really any way to leave that job and how could Zona let him?

Just a crazy ass time to be a Tar Heel fan, or any other college sports fan for that matter

I would be extremely happy with landing Lloyd.

It's possible that we were never all that interested in TJO. That would be more likely, in my opinion. Perhaps they want a bigger name, or they think TJO would cost too much, or that they want a proven winner. He's still pretty green. I get it, it's Iowa State, but it's not as if that program lacks any history of success. And until this year, they haven't been better than mediocre.
TJ Otzelberger has been head coach at Iowa State for five years. They won 2 games total the year before he became head coach. In his five years they have been to the NCAA tournament each year with progressively 11-6-2-3-2 seeds in the tourney. They have lost once (2023) in the first round. I heard Bobby Lutz on Charlotte sportstalk radio today say Iowa State has $8.5 million in NIL funds for their men's basketball program to recruit players to Ames, IA.
