UNC Basketball Possible coaches

I don't think joining as a young alum was an option back in the 70s but I could be wrong.

Thank you for your service and good for you that you joined when you were 22yo. (y)
So how many years have you been a member of the Rams Club ?
I'd rather not say, other than I don't give much at all. It has been consecutive since I was first graduated. In total, it's still a small amount.

I'm really warming up to Lloyd - plus he hasn't put out any definite statements that he's not interested in the UNC job
My guess, just reading the tea leaves, is he is interested in the job but is much more focused on winning a Natty this year. Once they lose or win, he will shift his focus. Now - interested doesn’t mean he will take it. If we offer and Arizona matches, that may not be enough, especially since he has proven he can field Championship caliber teams in Zona, and is a West Coast guy. I doubt he knows what he will do at this point, so certainly no insider on IC knows.

As always, the X-factor will be his wife and kids.

If T.J. Otzelberger doesn't feel that leaving freaking Iowa State for North Carolina is worth considering[...]
I think TJO is a special case in many ways.

He has a lot of ties to ISU and he seems like the kind of guy who would be very likely to stay somewhere as long as he's happy (kinda like Dean & Roy). It's part of why he was my previous #1 choice, but I knew it made him a longer shot to take the job.

I'm hopeful that a couple of other of our top tier choices don't seemingly have those deep ties to their current jobs and may be more interested in moving to a blue blood.

I have been enjoying Tommy Lloyd ball since the Caleb Love days

Never considered he would leave AZ for UNC if Hubert was fired

And still won't. It's someone like Donovan or worse until it's not

Yeah, I don't think getting hopes up on Lloyd is wise. The only reason he would do it would be a reverence for 'Blue Bloods'. He isn't likely to get better players or more money by making the move, just more pressure. The fact he waited 20 years on the Gonzaga bench to take a HC job seems to suggest he isn't hell bent on the big time. I think it'll be Donovan if he's truly interested, which will burn up UK fans who have tried to get him a few times in the last two decades. He'll likely be good, but there are definitely some risks.

TJO or McCollum would have been phenomenal hires, but probably just too Midwestern.

You and CFord are getting dangerously close to rooting for UNC not getting a great coach... hopefully Peppers will give you a pass for raising the very same speculation to be considered in my earlier post. Also, I hope you guys won't be accused of being tedious :)

There's a lot of interest from Lloyd's side. Trilly also added that he is hearing there is mutual interest and that Arizona is already working on a replacement if it happens. But again, if they win it all, it will cloud things up.

One tidbit that I found interesting is that Lloyd has a strained relationship with the current AD at Arizona. The interesting tidbit part is that her son is a junior on his team. I wonder how that all plays out lol

On the outs with the current admin is the only way I could see it

At least there has never been an easier time to pickup and move. Bring the players you want with you

Yeah, if there's serious friction with the AD, that changes things. Usually when you're one of the best coaches in a revenue sport you have the upper hand though. And it is easier to move, but he really has no one to bring but Kharchenkov and Aristode. Who are fine, but hardly the core of a really good team.

Of course a decimated roster at your current gig can also be an impetus to move (though he won't be walking in to a treasure trove by any means). TJO could've brought a ton.
