I would agree with that, though missing the opening of the portal isn't that big impediment, especially if we are hiring someone who is already a college coach.

He did. He is also the greatest college football coach ever. But there is also a big deference between being a head football coach and a head basketball coach. One is a lot more hands on in all areas than the other.
 
Agree. Listed this am. Best news is that Dewey says the money is there to:

Buy out old staff;
Buy out new coach’s buy out $;
Pay new coach and staff; and
Fund NIL.

New coach needs to win and the $$ will be there for the new arena.
 
You would think that a possible inducement to getting a great coach would be opportunity to have major input on the new arena assuming we can offer that poss.
 
Dewey "thinks" there's enough enthusiasm that the money will be there, and he said donors weren't willing to support Coach Davis with the same amount of money. He's basically saying donors are more willing to help [unknown coach] be successful than they are willing to help Coach Davis be successful. That sounds like donors didn't like Coach Davis as much as people say they like Coach Davis.

And before you say, "they don't want to throw good money after bad", if they are truly supporting the program, they should want to help more when the help is most needed.

He also referenced how the donors supported the Belichick hire. With the same people in charge, which is also very concerning, that's not exactly encouraging.

I hope it's a grand slam hire and Carolina never loses another game in my lifetime, I'm just doubtful it's a home run. I'm expecting an RBI double. Anything more than that will be encouraging.

His dD2 record is so stunning you think it is a typo

He had a great one year at Drake

His first year at Iowa they are in Elite 8

But too much a rish at this point and he does not have the donor gravitas yet
 
Not sure you need much donor gravitas. He's been doing this with a lot of his DII and Drake players. Just a decent bump in ability and he's going to win. Hell of a coach. Moot point, though. I really don't even think he'd consider the job right now given his background.

The donors at that level know they have a voice in the program and that their money talks. If they expect the money they’re being asked to give is being wasted, relatively speaking, you can’t fault them for using their money to seek something better. While you or I can disagree with it, that’s them “helping” the program the best way they believe they can.

I don’t fault the donors for financially supporting the Belichick hire. He’s one of the greatest coaches of all time. It might not work out, but the idea was solid enough to garner serious financial support.

We’ll have to see what the results of the search end up being before we know how successful it’s (initially) been. I’m sure we’d like to hit an obvious home run, but getting the best coach we can is really the goal.

I’d be excited about it, understanding you never know what the ultimate outcome will be. But it is clear he can coach. I would be more worried in the pre-NIL era when so much about recruting was on the head coach, but now money plays such a big role. Buy him the talent and I’m optimistic.
