LSU doesn’t generally go for FCS football coaches. It goes for Notre Dame and Ole Miss.

You go for the proven commodity first. Then you work your way down the list to riskier and riskier candidates.

This was my preference in 2021 and is still my preference today. Almost all of the top programs in the last few years picked up and comers from lower-tier programs. There’s no shame in UNC following that strategy too.

I take slight issue with the tone of that tweet though. UNC at least trying to swing for a home run like Lloyd or May isn’t an issue, as long as they were also doing the legwork with potential up and comer types to pivot if the Lloyds and Mays fell through. The problem is that I don’t think we have really been doing that legwork lol.
