Recruiting is good. I think this is exactly what I have been saying. Relentless. We have 36 recruits. Ten 4 stars. Approach must be working.

Nice of the HS coaches to talk to WRAL on game day. Also, why did former players need anonymity? Garbage journalism. Keep lapping it up.
Again, there are clearly issues that need to be addressed. Not just on the field. We will see if he's up to it.

I know several former football players. I could write a story based on what they have told me about how much they like him.

When has recruiting ever been a problem for UNC? It wasn’t for John Bunting. It wasnt for Larry Fedora until the last year. It certainly wasn’t for Mack Brown or Butch Davis. Every single one of those guys could get 4 star players, too. And they could all do it in an era where high school recruiting was actually how you built a program. Thats not the case any longer. Have you considered why we are taking 40 HS recruits? It’s because we know nobody worth a damn in the portal is going to give us the time of day. Guess we will all have to enjoy getting blown off the field with 18 year olds next year instead of with 23 year olds.

You can keep carrying water for Bill all you want. Fortunately, the vast majority of the college football world sees exactly what the rest of us here see, which is that this is an unmitigated disaster that needs to end no later than November 30, 2025.

Recruiting was a problem in December when we had a class ranked 70ish and our only 4 star decommitted and we had a staff of 2. Or at least a challenge.
Answer this? Why would former players be given anonymity? Give me a reason a journalist would do that.
 
You fully understand why someone would want anonymity and you know why a journalist would grant it. That’s first day of J-School stuff and you know you know that.

Recruiting is never, ever an issue at UNC historically. You know that, as well.

I totally understand your frustrations with the product, and I am with you there. What I don’t understand is how you know the upcoming portal season is going to be a disaster, ie, nobody worth a damn will come here to play. I could understand if you were worried about the upcoming portal season but waiting to see how it goes before casting your judgement. I don’t think it would be carrying any water, or admitting to having any hope for improvement, to wait for that data to come in before analyzing it.

I can give you a reason. Macks last two classes were 27th and 44th. 26 is average fit UNC 44th awful. Many of those players are gone. I dint need to tell you why. BB and Lombardi did. Now you might disagree. Fine. But they say the want the foundation of the program built through recruiting and portal use to plug holes. That is not the easy or quick approach. You just posted a WRAL story with zero named sources saying the recruiting approach is turning off HS coaches and players. I post info showing recruiting is good. BTW, tommy knowledge we have not lost a recruit this week. Now it might all fall apart. We will see

A journalist does not just willy jilly give anonymity. There should be compelling reasons to allow people to disparage others in print. The HS coaches, I understand. Former players? Fuck no.

No it's not. He ran with it because they gave him what he wanted. I mean seriously giving anonymity is fine when you can't get info any other way. I have read criticism from firmer players. Also have seen some support.
A story a day is the goal here for Pat.

I hear ya. I just feel like you’re mad at the journalists for reporting stuff you dont want to hear, instead of being mad at our $10M head coach and our $1.5M GM for putting the program in a position to be under such ridicule and scrutiny. You may not agree with these journalists’ methods but IMO you should be far more angry that Belichick and Lombardi have very clearly created such a flustercuck of an environment inside the program that there are angry parents, high school coaches, agents, internal staffers, etc. feeling it necessary to speak to said journalists in the first place.

Maybe I want the truth and dont believe you will get it from Raleigh media. Nor will you get it on the cowherd show or from Ollie or those relying on local reporting. Again, I have said on almost every post that there are issues. How big is the wildcard. I hear BB is checked out but he is clearly fighting to keep his job. UNC is investigating. I am content to allow the process. I was a public figure, and I know how easy it is to be slandered and to slander. The media is using UNC fans to carry their water.
I told my staff I would rather be right than first. In 24 years I was editor the paper got sued once for libel. They lost. I was proud of that record.
