Maybe Freddie Kitchens can become the interim head coach for a 2nd consecutive year!
IC story says kitchens unlikely to be OC next year. Heels flip another 4 star, CB David Davis was committed to PSU. Interestingly we have had a few decommits recently of some lower ranked recruits (one did go to tOSU). Class is now 36, 12 4 stars. Ranked 15th.

The tOSU one was a legacy pickup for them (Wilhelm's father played for Ohio State). I can't really fault the kid for making the switch, when given the opportunity. I agree, though, we seem to be replacing some of our lowest ranked recruits with higher ranked ones.

Any comments on who might get the position? Daboll?

I've got to give the staff a lot of credit. They're clearly selling a vision that is resonating on the recruiting trail. I also know that we are spending considerable money on high school recruits, and I'm still not sold on that strategy of taking 40+ kids in this class, but can't deny that clearly the staff is recruiting well and landing good, talented players.

I'm really looking forward to the Wake game this weekend as a barometer of how much we've really improved. They're probably the best defense we'll face all season and certainly the best team we've played in 3 weeks. This would be a legitimately good building block type win if we can get it. I've got the Heels winning a very low-scoring, ugly-at-times (given how offensively challenged both teams are) slugfest, 16-13.

Offense has to show some life. It’s just not realistic to expect the defense to stand on its head week after week and pitch a shutout in order for us to even have a chance of winning.

Oh I totally agree. I'm not really all that convinced that our offensive problems can even be fully rectified in one offseason because it will essentially require hitting a straight flush: changing OC's *and* changing our offensive philosophy almost a full 180 degrees *and* getting much better offensive linemen *and* hitting a home run in the portal at quarterback (or at the very least hoping that either Newkirk or Baker take massive steps forward).

Oh yeah it’s definitely going to be an interesting off-season. I’m mainly talking about finding some sort of offensive rhythm in the next 3 weeks though.

Wake is limited enough that we could conceivably win an ugly 13-10 type of game, but Dook and State are capable of putting up points. I think we’ll at least need to score in the 20s to give ourselves a chance in those games.

I really think there’s a lot on the line to close out the season. If we continue to look completely anemic and go 0-3 to finish the season then I bet things will get toxic and fans will start to check out. If we can scrape out 2 or 3 more wins (or even just 1 if the 1 is against State), then I’m willing to at least give them a chance to get things right over the off-season with a new OC and new approach to the portal.

wake is ranked 65th is that much of a barometer at all? yes its better than cuse and stanford but they set the bar damn near the bottom.

I doubt a new OC for UNC makes a big difference for UNC in 2026. The Head Coach will still want a ball control offense running a “pro style” offense from 20-30 years ago.

Maybe John Shoop is available.

But even ball control could definitely be more creative than what we're seeing and the scouting/scheming and conditional calling could be better.

I noticed on 247 team rankings nil average is included. UNC at $38000. That is by far the lowest of the top 20. Some are like $150000. Is that the average paid to our recruits? Is that info reliable? Is there explanation why we are so low?

I believe those figures are only the ones that recruits themselves actually tell 247 staff members about. Most schools and most recruits are incentivized to not be bluntly explicit about their NIL offerings, which I think makes sense. I know we paid way more than that for the guy we flipped from Miami and the first guy we flipped from Penn State.

How can UNC tell whether it is playing against a good defense? All of our opponents look like they have a good defense. Hard to imagine our offense being any worse against a "good" defense than it was the first half against a bad defense like Stanford.

I am hoping for a lot of defensive scores this weekend.

So you accidentally called me out. Ok.
Closer to incidentally. I personally am skeptical, and me mentioning my lack of trust is going to remind folks of how skeptical you have been too. BB is keeping everything extremely close to the vest. The same "source" of this OC talk could easily be the garbage who spread all the stuff about malcontent on the team.
