There will be a ton of infighting with our fans lol but I really don’t think that it’s an even 50/50 type of split at this point. I would say most of the die hard fans that really follow the sport closely see the situation as a farce that needs to end yesterday, then a minority are pushing back hard that this is still somehow going to turn around with another season. The casual fans are probably just resigned to Belichick getting multiple seasons simply because that’s how coaching tenures usually work.

Really though all you need to do is look and listen to what other people that follow the sport outside of the UNC sphere are saying about it. Basically everyone in the media that covers CFB that I pay attention to (beyond Gameday talking head types like Saban and McAfee who aren’t going to publicly bash Belichick) have been consistent that this was a bad idea and won’t work. Neutral fans seem to agree, and rival fans are all laughing and hoping that we keep rolling with Belichick for as long as possible.
The BOT members that are responsible for him being the coach won't ever admit they were wrong.

More importantly, why didn’t the officials rule the holder down? Should’ve been a turnover on downs.
Sadly this is wrong. It was a good play

The exception: There is a specific exception for field goal and extra point attempts that allows the holder to have a knee on the ground.
Can get up: The holder can rise to run, pass, or hand off the ball.
The play's status: As long as the ball is live and a teammate is in kicking position, the play remains live. The ball would be dead if the holder raises his knee to recover an errant snap and immediately returns it to the ground while holding the ball.

I don't know which category it puts me in, but I think this has gone terribly badly and I'm not sure I have much hope for the future unless Belichick is willing to make significant changes to the staff after this season. I hope that he and Lombardi learned a lot about how the portal works last year and can apply it this year, but again I won't believe it until I see it.

But as bad as this year has gone, I don't think Belichick nor any coach he wants to remain will be gone after this year. The folks with the power to make a chance aren't going to admit they fucked up and the cost of moving on after this year is really quite high (per Carolina standards). Unless Belichick has decided he's too embarrassed to stay and would rather be anywhere else, I fully expect him back next year. Heck, I'd put it at better than 50/50 that he'll be back for year 3 unless he wants to leave or next year is a nearly winless year. I just don't see the PTB at Carolina admitting they made a mistake and will only move on if/when they can spin it that it's not because of poor performance.

I agree with most of this, but IC did put out a bit earlier this week about needing to see significant progress next year or Belichick is getting fired, similar to what they reported about Hubert. I realize that what exactly constitutes “significant progress” or however they worded it is kinda vague, but I saw Tommy respond to a few posters basically saying that he didn’t get the sense that a mediocre 7-5ish would cut it.

As with all things UNC athletics, I will believe it when I see it lol but if IC is willing to report something like that I do think it’s significant.

E: I’ll also add this. Belichick‘s buyout is high by usual UNC standards, but other big time programs routinely pay more than that for buyouts. If it’s truly a matter of UNC not being able to scrape together enough money, then that dispels the notion that we’ve been hearing this whole time about finally being all in on football.

Yeah, I just read that on THI247, that the kicker is still in a "kicking position" unless he's downfield of the holder. Oh well. On to State.

The best way for Bill to show that he’s serious and not just grifting is for there to be zero Lombardi’s on the UNC payroll come December 1. Short of that, it’s hard to see this getting appreciably better.

The problem with that idea is that next year's schedule gets much tougher and we could be twice as good as this year and still not make a bowl. Here's next year's schedule...

TCU in Ireland
East Tennessee State
@UConn
Notre Dame
@Clemson
@dook
Louisville
Miami
NC State
@Pitt
Syracuse
@Virginia

There aren't many guaranteed wins on that schedule and a number of games where we should be decided underdogs based on recent performance.

1-9 with two toss-ups.

You’re preaching to the choir my man haha. The likelihood that Lombardi suddenly figures out how to put together a roster that is significantly better than the current iteration in one offseason and that Belichick also makes the schematic changes necessary to put together a 9ish win type of season against that schedule is extremely low in my view.

I still disagree with this. Older Lombardi has the high school recruiting going really well, better than it has for a long time. Let's see what he can do with the portal. If it goes pear shaped, then I agree.
