Well said. The only remote prayer that this whole thing has of working is for Belichick to finally exhibit the type of humility and introspection that escaped him at the end of his New England Patriots days and to hire people who aren’t friends and family, people who will not just rubberstamp and yes man, people who have their own ideas and methods for how to coach and scheme and game plan specifically for the sport of college football and who will be allowed to implement those ideas and methods. If he does that, and if he is somehow able to regain his renowned ability to out game plan and out maneuver opponents, this thing can still work yet. UNC is not ever going to lack for being able to get talented players. The key is being able to have a staff that can effectively relate to them, teach them, motivate them, prepare them, instill discipline in them, hold them accountable, scheme and plan around their strengths and weaknesses, etc.
Could have just hired an actual college coach and saved some money in the first place

I didn't say you were mocking me although clearly I am excited about recruiting. I never post on game threads because emotions are high and I figured mocking people by using all caps and making them sound like Gomer Pyle was your way of coping. I saw you apologized so I guess you had a regret concerning it. As for the NIL value I believe the info here is correct and my guess is that the largeness of our class and perhaps a bunch of recruits getting little or zero nil brings ours down. It is confusing to me why the nil value is needed as it is basically just another ranking system and that is already provided for with stars and ratings. Regardless there is an effort by the anti-BB crowd on IC to diminish the recruiting efforts and among some almost a desire to see the class fall apart. If you look back on this thread there is some of that. It is possible to not like BB, want him gone etc. And be thankful that some good HS recruits want to come to UNC for whatever reason.
No one wants the class to fall apart. You keep ascribing things to people that have not been posted and have been told numerous times is not how people feel. Just because some of us are able to see this for the disaster that it is, doesn’t mean we are hoping unc loses recruits.

Good because it's not happening.

As the current system progresses, is it really “recruiting” anymore? Or is it simply bidding for services?

I know the NCAA has been rendered toothless by Congress and the courts, but if they can establish roster sizes, can they also establish roster salary caps? Or would that require athletes to be employees of the university so there could be collective bargaining?

Who would be the collective bargaining entity? The school, the league, the NCAA?

College sports (revenue sports at least) are so fucked.

How many times are you going to force us to tell you that nobody here is cheering for UNC to fail, nobody here is cheering for Belichick to fail, nobody here is cheering for the recruiting class to fall apart, etc. etc. etc. etc.? How many times? Because I'm perfectly willing to keep saying it for as long as you're willing to keep implying it.

By the way, I had and have zero regret for anything I said during our game on this thread. I stand by the mockery of all of the excuse-making with every ounce of sincerity I can muster. I simply apologized for blowing off steam on this thread out of frustration during the middle of a game, which is typically out of character for me.

Good because it's not happening.
What's not happening? We've quite literally had de-commits. Just had one yesterday, in fact. It's the name of the game in recruiting, where a commitment is simply a reservation until or unless something better (i.e., more financially lucrative) comes along.

You're trying too hard to find a boogeyman in those of us who are expressing disdain and disagreement with how our football program is currently being managed. None of us are obligated to wave our pom-poms and clap like seals, just like you're not obligated to find frustration or disagreement with how our football program is currently being managed. I don't think any of us here believe you are less of a fan for being optimistic, and I think we'd all appreciate the same courtesy in reverse being applied.

I did not read past I sincerely apologize. I thought you were being incredibly childish. I scanned thread and just saw multiple posts in all caps mocking people excited about recruiting or whatever. Just seemed weird. Figured you were drunk.

Well, at least I didn't tell anyone personally to go fuck themselves or to suck my dick! That's been your standard MO on this board in the past.

Yea. I have been posting 20 years and in that time I did tell Wayne to suck my dick and you to fuck off. That is true.

Yeah, so forgive me if I don't find you to be the most credible arbiter of what constitutes childishness on a message board.

This will be the last time I interact with you personally, unless you specifically want to discuss actual football points in the future. I'm no longer wasting my time, your time, or anyone else's time with the petty personal BS that you seem to relish.

Have a good one, and Go Heels.

Greg Barnes has a great piece up on IC this morning (and also, great news about Greg coming back full-time!)

Interesting highlights:

"The early signing period opens on Wednesday and runs through Friday. General manager Michael Lombardi shared with boosters in late September that he believed the 2026 recruiting class would include players who are the cornerstone of the rebuild. The financial investment matches that opinion, as spending on UNC’s 2026 high school recruiting class is nearing $10 million, according to sources.

Given the narrow window for a dramatic turnaround, that’s a substantial price tag for incoming freshmen who must navigate a difficult transition to the college game and therefore may not be ready to compete at a high level in 2026. There’s a significant need for money to be spent in both player retention and the transfer portal, which will be open for 15 days from Jan. 2-16."

Exactly what I and others have been saying and about which we've been expressing skepticism. It's vindicating to see if validated by someone of Greg's expertise and connections.

Getting tired of the Highest paid state employee stuff... It's donor money....ticket revenue...Radio newtork money etc
Always has been the highest paid Univ employees are the two primary Rev coaches at Carolina and nclol

That would align a bit with the $35k nil assigned UNC. That times 39 recruits - assuming some did not get paid - would be in the $10m ballpark I suppose. Usc has 34 ,recruits average nil valued of $152k would put them spending about $50m. Which I don't believe.
