As I understand it, we're on the hook for the full 30 Mil, whether he coaches her for three years or not.
Right, but $30M is for 3 years right? So after 2 years it's only $10M, so if we let him coach another year we "save" $10M (while being subjected to relentless mockery).

you're still spending the money, though - just about whether you're paying him to "coach" or to sit on his couch. what you're saving by not firing him is just the next guy's salary.

I'm not arguing to keep him, I'm just thinking about how the PTB's might look at it. What a giant clusterfuck.

I know it's expensive to buy out his contract but how much money do we lose by keeping him -i know we sold out tickets this year but no way that happens next year if he's back as coach
Totally agree with you but I think that the unfortunate fly in the ointment is that strictly from a financial standpoint, the Athletics Dept has season ticket holders locked in for the next 3 years with the Rams Club Reseating that happened this past summer. I suppose folks could still decide to cancel their season tickets after this year's unmitigated disaster which would mean less ticket revenue for next year, but I wonder how many people will actually do so knowing that they'd lose their seat location that they had locked in for 3 years.

You have to imagine promises were made behind closed doors that BB was in zero danger from a wins-and-losses perspective until next year at the absolute earliest. I know most are ready to move on already but how realistic is that? I'm guessing he's in no danger even if he goes 3-9 or similar.

My take that the “you should never root against your team” crowd will hate is that if this experiment wasn’t going to work, it’s actually for the best that it’s been a total dumpster fire right off the bat.

I was never a fan of the hire but when it first happened I figured it would play out something like this: struggle through a rebuild season where we only win a handful of games, then top out at like 7 or 8 wins in years 2 and 3 before the whole thing loses momentum and we go back to square one.

While what’s actually happened is far more embarrassing right now, at least almost everyone is now on the same page that this isn’t going to work long term and the plug will probably get pulled sooner.

100% of them.

I'll be pretty danged surprised if Belichick isn't given 3 years to do whatever he's going to do, unless he decides to walk away from the entire situation (including his guaranteed contract).

I don't think you're going to see the PTB admit that they made a mistake in hiring Belichick because of the way his hiring went down. It's one thing if a chancellor/president of a university can fire the AD and then the football coach and tie everything up in a neat little bow. But thanks to the very public way this hiring played out, we all know that the BOT and Chancellor had more to do with the hiring than the AD. And do you really think that Preyer/Roberts are going to admit any error by firing Belichick before the guaranteed portion of his contract runs out? I don't.

We are not renewing and have had tickets 45 years. What can The Rams Club do, tells us we cant buy season tickets if we deicide we want them in 3-4 years? We are tired of this crap and have had enough. We will buy individual games off seet geek going forward IF we have the desire to go

I'm not sure he is going to survive the week, much less three years.

I've kept quiet since my initial comments on Saturday evening where I stated it was illogical to throw in the towel on the BB era so soon. The more I read the comments here and on Premium, and reports from insiders I know, the more I am shifting towards y'alls position that UNC needs to end sever ties with BB/Lombardi and staff. More and more information has surfaced since then about BB's lack of communication with the players, the lack of player access to the top floor at KFC, the disorganization of practice notices, dressing only 50+ players for a home game, notes from the locker room on Saturday and missing a day of practice to head to Nantucket for a romantic fall weekend. I also hate the blackout he's put on New England preventing our communication staff from boasting about Maye on social media. God, that's stupid.

I'm still open to the argument that we give BB the rest of the season to see if he can achieve a modest course correction and do a hard reevaluation after the season. I'm also now open to cutting bait now if the PTB determine that is in the best interest of the University and athletic department.

I was a big supporter of hiring BB - thinking it would launch UNC into big time football - so this is a bit of a hard pill to swallow.

I applaud your self-reflection and willingness to change course on something you believed fervently. Now, apply it to politics. 😉
