It’s clear to me now that it was ALL Tom Brady.

It was NEVER Bill Belichick.

We’ve been conned.
That's ridiculous. The Pats' defense carried TB A LOT. The offense was terrible in both wins over the Rams.

The problem is talent level. And yes, you can say that's on BB. He didn't know how to build a roster in college. He might also not have the right perspective to judge middling players. He was great at drafting players, but anyone drafted is a star in college. Or at least very good. And they aren't freshmen.

There might be other problems also but the roster seems like it's the main issue.

I think it is way, way more than talent. We only scored 3 points against Charlotte in the second half and we have 10x the talent of that squad. The fact is that Bill can't coach college kids. It is obvious.

Well, I don't know. I was mostly responding to the idea that his success in the NFL was all Tom Brady. It very much was not. BB was a defensive wizard.

As for not coaching college kids, yeah perhaps. I don't think it's right to say he can't do it (we don't really know that) but he hasn't been able to.

If I may use an analogy, a lawyer who is a brilliant Supreme Court advocate might not be effective at all arguing in front of a local magistrate or family court judge. The arguments that work for Justice Kagan can go way over the head of the local. I would imagine that the same goes for football players. Like, BB is used to not having to teach the basics, because the pro players all know them -- but in college, you have to.

Or to make another analogy, this time personal: it took me a year or so to learn how to teach law students. I went to an elite school, and then an elite clerkship and elite firms and most people I interacted with in the law also went to elite schools, clerkships, etc. So when I started teaching at a Tier II law school, my students ended up confused a lot by arguments that didn't seem all that complicated to me. I had to recalibrate my expectations. I got much better. Maybe BB will. Maybe he won't.

Roll call :

How many here were so excited that Chapel Bill was hired and would take us to the promised land ?
I was opposed to the hire, but once it was done I decided to be optimistic and allowed myself to believe he might be able to bring attention (and consequently good players) to the program. I was very skeptical of bringing in Mike Lombardi and retaining Freddie Kitchens, since I lived through both of their tenures in Cleveland. I’ve tried to keep a positive attitude until the girlfriend fiasco….I've been out since the 60 Minutes fiasco.

among myriad other issues, how have you not gotten either of the freshmen a single rep in a game that's been a blowout since the first quarter? so much for building for the future.

A new coach may not win right away, but the improvement in coaching will manifest itself right away if he can perform at this level. Butch Davis was 4-8 in 2007, but it was readily apparent that the team was much better coached.

When Bill puts out this terrible of a product in his first five games, we really do know that he can't do it. There is 0.0% chance that Bill will work at UNC.

That's not correct if the problem is that he doesn't know how to coach college kids. Do you think he is congenitally incapable of it?

Butch inherited some talent, if I recall. BB inherited none, basically. That's the lay of the land these days, and he needs to be able to build a roster. But it's ridiculous to say he can't ever do it; just as it would have been ridiculous to say that I was never going to be an effective teacher just because my first semester was rocky.

I mean, the time of possession is almost tied between the two teams today. That's meaningful, isn't it? Isn't it? It is, I'm sure of it. It has to be. Equal time of possession = good times are coming.

Bill inherited a fair amount of talent. We nickeled and dimed Campbell, Atkinson and Shaw so that we could spend $2 million on the worst QB in P5.

Yes, I think he is congenitally incapable of coaching college kids. Every step he has taken since December 2024 has been a masterclass in how not to succeed at the college level. From the staffing decisions, to the personnel decisions, to the game planning, to the in-game coaching. Everything has demonstrated that he is out of his league in college. It is the same reason you don't teach a 12 year old Golden Retriever how to fetch baseball bats.

I doubt there will be a lot of sacks. I'd put the over/under at 3. Strong likelihood on the check downs and throws to the brother.
Well, at least I got this right.

Just one sack, and lots of check downs (42 passes for 213 yards is almost impossible) and lots of passes to his brother (3 receptions for 30 yards).

Never thrilled with the hire. I didn't care at all for Belichick when he was at New England - he just always seemed like a jerk and there was the cheating scandal and the fact that he's a Trumplican. And while there was no denying his success with the Patriots I also doubted whether that would transfer to the college game, and after our experience with Mack 2.0 I wondered about the wisdom of hiring another coach his age. When his "relationship" with a woman 49 years his junior gained widespread publicity with that embarrassing interview earlier this year I was even less enthused.

But as a UNC fan I did hope for the best and so said several times that I would wait until the season started to see how he did on the field. Well, he sucks, and he's made UNC a national laughingstock, both with his inept losses and coaching and his go-go granddaughter girlfriend. Not much more needs to be said.

Meanwhile, Vanderbilt is showing a school like UNC could be good in the SEC if it has the right personnel, money and backing.

Probably just an indicator that the team that whipped our ass scored fast and often.
