No. Not during the season and hardly during the off season. Roy himself and especially would tell you it is unthinkable to do that kind of thing. Thats a big factor in retiring.
I distinctly remember Jay Williams during a game about 10-12 years ago talking about Roy being so sick that he had to hire a driver to drive him to Asheville to meet his family for a short vacation. This was during the season, at a time when the players had a few days off. I will see if I can find an article discussing it.

I was there.
The minister who presided at our wedding (he was a great guy but sadly passed away a few years ago) was a Furman grad, and I still remember how thrilled he was when they beat us, he was practically glowing at church the day after their win. We've certainly had our share of bad-to-mediocre coaches over the years, that's for sure.

CFord should be UNC's spokesperson. He hit the nail on the head. The only thing i can add is this is Torbushian bad. Furman beat us 28-3 in Kenan when Carl Torbush was head coach, think about that.
We are very fortunate that the G5 opponent on our schedule this season was one of the few teams in FBS worse than we are, and that our FCS opponent wasn’t a legit top 25ish team at that level. Either of those could have easily been a loss if we had played a JMU or Austin-Peay type of team in those respective spots.

HUGE difference in Roy’s teams and this BB team. Roy’s teams weren’t among the worst in P4, and he wasn’t starting from scratch.

One thing I remember about that game is that there was a penalty and it was in our best interest to decline the penalty. I can’t remember the specifics; maybe declining it would have resulted in Furman having a fourth down rather than another shot at third. Or maybe we would have had a first down had we declined the penalty, but not if we accepted it. Whatever it was, the very obvious thing to do was to decline the penalty. Torbush accepted the penalty. The crowd went nuts (in a bad way). Everyone was in disbelief. It was pure incompetence.

link?

I've seen on the sites that (1) he completely skipped practice, (2) he skipped part of practice, (3) it wasn't a real practice, just a walk through, and (4) it can't be confirmed if he skipped practice or not. I've yet to see anyone confirm that he was at all of Thursday's practice, which would be easy for one of the mutiple player parents on the sites, like Trench Fighter, to confirm if he in fact did not skip out.
You found it. AJ said:
"He was at practice during the week. He flew to Mass that Thursday because the players practiced Tues-Thurs and had the weekend off, which is standard for bye weeks."

Why do you keep calling it a 4 day vaca when it was likely a late thur flight to Boston -> recruiting all Fri. Some recruiting Sat, then a quick private flight for lunch on Nantucket, then flight back to Chapel Hill. Is there some evidence he didn't get back til late Sunday?

Just to repeat AJ's last blurb had the weekend off, which is standard for bye weeks.

You know a lot of coaches who took their Sugababies on “recruiting trips” to luxury seasonal destinations?
BB is worth tens of millions $. That means private planes. It is less than 45 mins to fly from Boston to Nantucket.

Are you going to tell me other coaches don't take breaks for a nice lunch or dinner during BYE weekends?

This photo was posted by TMZ 4PM Sat. That's them walking back to their private plane. Meaning, they are leaving nantucket. It isn't like they're staying all nite.

calheel, wmheel1287, it is common for coaches to take breaks during BYE weekends.

James Franklin says this on a Tuesday - meaning he is missing the Wednesday or Thur practice:

“We’ll watch the film tonight, do some recruiting calls. Tomorrow, obviously, we practice again. I think tomorrow night, I go out, then I’ll be out all day. Thursday, we’ll have a coordinator’s practice like we’ve had in the past on Thursday, and any of the coaches that are not on the road. Friday, we’ll all be out recruiting. The players will, after their academic responsibilities, be off. Recruit all day Friday, go to some games Friday night and then do the same thing Saturday, and then the players will be off all day Saturday, and then we’ll get back sometime Saturday night. Then, Sunday’s game week. Sunday, we’ll be a little bit ahead since we won’t have the last game for us to grade. We will still have to break their film down and add that to our cutups and things like that. But that’s essentially the week.”

Another guy indicating coaches DO take breaks during byes

PS - i'm aware Florida is struggling, and that PSU lost after their bye. LOL.

I'm not saying things don't suck, the on-field outcomes are horrible, it's just that there's a ton of exaggeration or assignment of issues that aren't the root problem.
