Another guy indicating coaches DO take breaks during byes

PS - i'm aware Florida is struggling, and that PSU lost after their bye. LOL.

I'm not saying things don't suck, the on-field outcomes are horrible, it's just that there's a ton of exaggeration or assignment of issues that aren't the root problem.

And I am telling you that my personal experience is different. I was at Carolina for Mack 1.0. I was there for Torbush and Bunting. I worked for Mike Roberts and Mike Fox. I worked with Coach Smith, Coach Gut, and Doherty. I worked with Anson, Sylvia and others. I have never seen one of them take vacations or off days mid season. I just didn't see it. None of us did. Its a 7 day a week business.

You found it. AJ said:
"He was at practice during the week. He flew to Mass that Thursday because the players practiced Tues-Thurs and had the weekend off, which is standard for bye weeks."

Why do you keep calling it a 4 day vaca when it was likely a late thur flight to Boston -> recruiting all Fri. Some recruiting Sat, then a quick private flight for lunch on Nantucket, then flight back to Chapel Hill. Is there some evidence he didn't get back til late Sunday?

Just to repeat AJ's last blurb had the weekend off, which is standard for bye weeks.
It is standard not to practice on weekends. It is absolutely not standard to take a four day vacation with your girlfriend. You should be recruiting and working during the off week. And squeezing in a quick trip to a recruit outside our footprint to a recruit we are not getting doesn’t count. He could have gone to 10 high schools in NC that weekend.

And yes it was four days. He left on a plane Thursday afternoon - either before, during or right after practice. Don’t know why you keep saying it was Thursday night. And he came back late Sunday. So that is Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Four days. Three nights if it makes you happier.

I don’t know if you are Jordon, but this is absolutely unacceptable for a coach of a P4 program - much less one that is failing mightily in the coach’s first year.

I guess things have changed then, at least in FB. Also, we're talking about a long lunch. Not a vacation.

The time I was talking about was during the 2013 season. The team had a few days off over the winter break. (It was the season PJ was suspended and Will got popped for pop.)

How do you know when the flight left? How do you know when it returned? Seems like you're making a lot of assumptions, but maybe you have a link(s)? Also, given the state of the program, the last thing we want to do is limit recruiting regions.

Would it change your opinion if it was an overnight flight on Thursday, all day meetings with players and families and a game on Friday, followed up by more meetings with players and families on Saturday, and then a flight Saturday night to Nantucket for lunch on Sunday, then a flight back to Chapel Hill Sunday evening for the weekly coaches meeting Sunday night?

The primary purpose of a multi-day trip to New England is not recruiting. If the head coach of a southern school wishes to designate a few days to recruiting, no one suggest a trip to Massachusetts as a good use of the time.
UNC has already signed two high-3-star players from MA.

I just don't see why you'd want to limit your pool, given the current state.

It’s going to be so easy being the new coach next year, just don’t be a national embarrassment daily
Greg and Jason talked about this last night. This is a big reason why they're excited about what the hire signals - UNC has opened up the purse for the first time for football. They talked about how UNC would be a very attractive destination when BB is gone.

It was posted by several people that he skipped either some or all of the practice on Thursday to go on vacation. Do I *know* that is true? No, but given everything else we have read about this regime, I have no reason to disbelieve it.

Whether it would have been better if it were a short working vacation, -- probably. But I'd still have an issue with him wasting time in Massachusetts. The Northeast talent is owned by the Big10. Also, and this would be a must, do not be filmed window shopping with your 24 year old girlfriend during a bye week in the middle of the season. You know the media is circling like sharks. Yet, you demonstrate the bad judgment to create an entire news cycle of embarrassing press for you and the program. That does not help recruiting. It does not help you win college football games.
