You mean 2 friends and a guy he called during the segment believe he’ll do well

They’re basically recruiting at our historical average. The class is currently ranked 18th with 36 (!!!) commits. By comparison, South Carolina’s class is 17th with 16 commits. Yes, the recruiting is fine right now, but the recruiting has to be a lot better than fine to make up for the poor scheming and coaching.
Yea. Given where class was when he got there and where he took it, I think they did fine. Did poorly in portal

Yea. I said buddies. Of course wral doesn't have an agenda. Or those feeding the info. Regardless GameDay is an incredibly watched show. I did not see segment just read an IC poster who used bullish.

No, I'm serious. Why not willy jilly? What's so fucking special about nilly?
The current phrase comes from middle english phrase "will I, nill I" or "will he, nill he". The middle english term "nill" meant "to not want" or "to refuse".

"Will I/he, nill I/he" essentially meant "whether I/he want/s to or not".

In modern english, it has evolved to mean "to do something in a haphazard way" due to the way folks tend to do things when done against their will.

Did you look that up, or are you a historical linguist?

I like willy jilly better.

I looked it up because I was curious.

I do find linguistics, generally, and etymology, specifically, to be endlessly fascinating, so when a question why certain words exist or how they developed or how they acquired specific meanings, I will almost always look it up because I know I'll be interested by the answer.

I already knew about the pronunciations of Celtic before it came up recently, but that's only because I'd looked it up at some point in the past when it came up in a conversation.

Watching Indiana today, and planning to watch Arizona State tonight, just reinforces my current frustration. Belichick and Lombardi are bringing in 40 freshmen next year. What team has ever got better by getting younger across the board? You're looking at three years before those guys will be near their full potential- and current trends in college football say that 2/3 of them won’t even be here by that point in time anyway- which will be Belichick's fourth year. We are supposed to wait four years to hope his first recruiting class pans out to judge him when historically insignificant programs like Indiana and Arizona State are hiring coaches who then get their teams to the CFP in year one and two?

Would you prefer to try and load up in the transfer portal again? That’s an expensive option, has no guarantee of being successful and it even if it is successful you’re needing to do it again for the following season.

I expect there to be very heavy attrition in our 2025 and 2026 HS recruiting classes, but you have to rebuild your base at some point.

Man, I wish it was Bill being “old school” that was the problem. If only!

Bill’s problem has nothing to do with being old school and everything to do with the fact that he is arrogant, hubristic, believes he is the smartest football mind that ever existed, has a significant proclivity for nepotism and cronyism, has completely lost his fastball in talent evaluation, and has completely jettisoned the militantly no-nonsense/no distractions mentality that made him so successful in the first place.

If our only problem was that Bill is old-school versus Mack being soft, we’d be 4-1 and thinking about how the back half of our schedule set us up for getting to Charlotte on December 6.
You've nailed the "why" (for why we're seeing the onfield perf), but you also can't use arrogance as a good reason for firing an HC when you are trying to shake off the wine&cheese reputation/culture.

To your recent point if BB/Lombo's arrogance are blinding them from serious portal-hunting then it's time to say goodbye, but it might be too soon to judge.

We need to at least partly load-up. We're graduating 4 starting OL, 5 if Will keeps starting of Banfield. The OL returning next will be very young, lowly recruits from Mack's last class AND have zero experience - especially Center and RG. A recipe for disaster if we don't recruit some experience there.

The hope would be that by 2027 at least the non-xfer recruits might have been thru a few yrs of S&C and a few mop-up reps.

Same in the trenches on the D side, it is rare for really young guys to be immediate contributors and we're graduating LBs Simpson and GBayor, DE Yates/Vilbert.

If we don't get some OL, an SSDE, some LB, and corners we'll be incredibly young AND incredibly inexperienced.

I’m not saying don’t bring in any transfers, but you also have to build out your base via HS recruiting so you aren’t constantly needing to bring in a bunch of transfers to be starters,

I do wonder where we'd be as a program if Mack, or Bubba, did the right thing two years ago. Although, apparently Bubba was/is super impressed by Monken and Rees, so who knows if he'd (given the chance) would've gone after Cignetti.

Not all transfers are one year players. You should be using the portal to build multi-year depth too.
The flip side is the fact that simply recruiting a HS player doesn’t guarantee they’re still be there in 2-3 years once they’re ready to start.

With a HS recruiting class of this size, it’s guaranteed there will be many who aren’t here 3 years from now.
