Sam Howell not a neutral party in sacks allowed as evidence by his pro career
Good point. Generally we were awful under Mack in trying to keep the QB upright. Some of those teams scored lots of points though.

QB Sacked Percentage

2014 51 Quise
2015 24 Mitch 1
2016 28 Mitch 2
2017 86 Brandon Harris/Surratt/Elliot
2018 4 Fed's last yr
2019 103
2020 110
2021 125
2022 86
2023 91
2024 103
2025 29 - Gio's yr

2025 proves this stat doesn't mean your offense is good.
Frequent throw-aways or over-using max-protect, or being run-heavy, overly conservative, etc skew it.

Surprised you stopped crying about WRAL long enough to watch it.
I guess a seven year effort to kill UNC athletics based on what amounted to mostly BS is forgiven if they say what you want to hear. Bob Diaco was extremely likeable, vulnerable, well spoken, but he called BB the Goat. So you should not watch. Get your info from WRAL. Also don't google LT in BB either.

Someone can be the GOAT at one thing and horrible at another. Coaching college football and coaching NFL are not remotely the same skillset. Whatever your fascination is with WRAL doesnt change that. We are a worse football team than we have been in at least 2 decades and next year looks to be just as bleak or worse.

We can just disagree on that. It's not a fascination. It's an understanding from being in the business for 36 years the power of the press, and how easily it is abused for an agenda. I know how the sausage is made. The Caleb hood deal is just one example. Chandler Morris another. The documentary will be another. On and on.

It is the definition of a fascination. Nobody gives a damn what WRAL or the NandO write. Nobody. NOBODY. They are as useless as tits on a boar hog. I get that you are uniquely frustrated with them because it is your profession. I do the same with those who suck in my own. But rest assured it is a tempest in a teapot. Belichick is failing spectacularly on his own regardless of media coverage.

If we all promise to hate WRAL will you admit that BB is doing an abysmal job?

I actually do like Diaco as a coach, I was speaking generally about not wanting to watch our press conferences.

I actually can’t tell you the last time I read or watched anything by WRAL. In fact the only time I’ve seen them get discussed at all recently is when butthurt crybabies like you complain about them.

I love WRAL. Still miss Greg Fishel, though. And a lot of the longtime reporters and anchors have left in the last few years.

there's a much more recent, even ongoing, attempt to kill UNC athletics from right inside the KFC that the rest of us are reacting to.

and bob diaco, even before getting hired here, was the biggest joke in college football.

Wouldn’t Michael Lombardi have been the biggest joke in college football?

Oh…….wait……he had ZERO college football experience.

And, his most recent position even near an NFL staff looks to be 2014-16 according to the year-by-year bio on his UNC page. He held the weighty position of “Assistant to the Coaching Staff.”

His son, Matt, our QB coach, has an equally impressive CV……lots of time as an offensive quality control coach.

What's the scoop on Diaco? I don't mind a coach's interview style being different from the typical droning, repetitive coach-speak. He seems like a nice guy and would give the pure fball talk if pressed for it. I was dismayed to learned that he's never been a D-Line coach, but honestly our DL seems to be doing okay given what we have.

he's hated by fans of just about every school he's worked for since his success with ND, comparable to how most people see Gene Chizik atp. the corny interview stuff wouldn't matter if he'd been good at his job for more than a year in the last decade-plus.

from 2014-2016, he compiled the worst record for a UConn HC since 1920.
in 2017, he was hired as Nebraska's DC and torpedoed their DFEI from 46th to 98th.
in 2020, he brought Purdue down from 75th to 86th despite a huge talent upgrade.

the one exception was a decent performance as LA Tech's DC in 2019 that got him the Purdue job, but that's a lower level of competition.

edit: remember that David Hale tweet listing the experience of BB's staff? next to Diaco, it just says "is Bob Diaco." that's the level of known incompetence we're dealing with.
