When you’re 2-4 and your opponent is 6-1 you have to play for the instant win. The longer OT drags on the more likely the better team makes a play you can’t match.
Yeah, I’ve just never bought into that idea. Especially when it’s a team that struggles to get the ball into the end zone. In the college game, two-point conversions are successful less than half of the time. I think your best chance of winning is to take the high percentage play that keeps the game going and then play to win. It’s kind of like being down by 2 in basketball at end of the game and passing up an open layup for a 3.

It isn’t BB’s fault that players fumble the ball at the 1 inch line, or that the opponent is gifted interceptions because balls bounce off the hands of our WRs. If you are a D1 athlete you should be expected to catch balls that hit you in the hands, and not repeatedly fumble balls at the goal line.
Now that would depend upon how much NIL $ the players received. If the player who failed to catch the pass at the two yard line setting up the game winning FG was not receiving NIL $ I would be disappointed but give him a pass. It's the NIL players who need to not make game costing mistakes and earn their money.

I think two things can be true:

1. The team is improving significantly on the defensive side of the ball and in terms of overall effort and not giving up. I criticize the coaches for a ton, and rightfully so I think, but I will also give them sincere props for that. In particular, though I do believe he has lost a lot off of his fastball, Bill Belichick can still coach a defense. For the most part that was a defensive clinic today.

2. We are still overall pretty poorly coached in terms of play calling and game management. We also make a ton of undisciplined mistakes. Bad football teams lose games exactly the way we have lost the last two. We are definitely a bad football team.

That being said, and as much as I still do not believe that this whole Belichick thing is going to work in the grand scheme, I can admit that I now see reason to give year 2 when I absolutely saw zero reason to do so after the Clemson game. It is going to require us to strike gold – I mean absolutely strike gold – in the transfer portal and especially at the quarterback position, and I most definitely believe the jury is still out on Lombardi and Belichick’s ability to put together a good collegiate roster, but at least as of right this moment – and certainly I reserve the right to change my mind after seeing the rest of the season play out – but as of right now they should get year two. And I’ll certainly be hoping it works out well.

If Bill’s going to get another season, he has to get a new offensive coordinator. That’s non-negotiable.

Completely agree. I would also say a new GM but I am also realistic enough to know he won’t do that. Hell, he might not even change OC’s but agree with you that that has to be the absolute bare minimum. The problem is, I’m not sure that we aren’t running the exact kind of offense Bill wants to run so I’m not certain he sees an issue with the coaching and playcalling and game planning on the offensive side of the ball.

As crazy as it might sound, I think Lombardi should get a full year too. He already has a solid/good HS class coming in. I hope that he puts together a solid/good portal class too.

Yeah, the way I see it, he is essentially Bill‘s best friend so it’s probably a complete non-starter to expect him to change GM’s. So I’m just hopeful he can pull together a great transfer portal class. I have to imagine we’ve got the money to be able to do it. The high school class is pretty solid, and it’s huge, but 99% of those guys are not going to be able to help us next year, and we are going to need to win a lot more than we lose next year to justify year three I would think.

I don’t mind a ball-control offense with an emphasis on defense. But that still requires competence on offense. It also puts a premium on minimizing mistakes/turnovers.

Only issue I have with it is that I don’t think it’s a winning formula at the collegiate level like it is in the pros. There are far too many good college offenses out there where I don’t think you can make a living over the course of a season trying to win games 13-10, 17-13, etc

Crap on BB all you want, but we’d be 4-3 and 2-2 in conference right now if our players didn’t forget how to play football inside the 2 yard line.
I was told that Jordon was a distraction. She obviously is avoiding the defensive players and coaches, instead she's likely performing her leggy witchcraft around the 2 yard line during practice.

I think you're right about Lombardi, but didn't Kraft force BB to get rid of him? (I think I read that somewhere.) Yeah, hopefully the portal proves to be greatly beneficial. Really need a good QB.

GIve us an RB with wiggle and a decent qb and we'd be scoring points. Last 2 weeks players have been put into position to win games despite a death of speed or elite athleticism.

Every week we see new faces - Madrid Tucker, Easter, Clower,Jaylen Mcgill.

Blame personnel probs on the GM and BB, but we've been fielding a ton of guys that weren't here til the summer, including some true frosh, it shouldn't be a surprise that it's taking the coaches a long time figure out their players strengths and weaknesses.

The first few weeks our offensive scheme and calls were atrocious, but the last two I'm less abhorred, given the talent.
ETA - unless we see more improvement I'd love to see a new offensive coach or 2 swapped in.

Why can’t we try one or both of the freshman qbs to see how they perform with live bullets? We need to see what we’ve got before heading to the portal. I’m watching Mizzu’s freshman QB. We saw Cal with a frosh.

We’re trying new faces at every other position.
