No ACC teams should ever be ranked in the top 10 in rhe NIL era because no ACC team is capable of being one of the 10 best teams in the country in the NIL era
But teams like Indiana, Illinois and Vanderbilt are somehow better now. Doesn't make sense how those teams can be better than ACC teams, including UNC, but they are.

big10 really just the big1. Indiana good but cig will be just another hot coach who gets a huge payday in a couple of yrs after getting fired. illini sucks. vandy would prob win acc

1. I respect that the team has shown up to play each of the last 3 weeks. Honestly thought that they were going to roll over and quit after the Clemson game/all of the fallout the following week, so credit to the players and staff for keeping their heads. I thoroughly enjoyed finally watching them get into the win column on Friday.

2. Big picture, we are 3-5 with our only wins being against 1 of the bottom 3 teams in all of FBS, an FCS team, and a perennial ACC basement dweller with no QB. 2 moral victory Ls and 1 win against said basement dweller in the last 3 weeks isn’t nearly enough to change my overall feelings about Belichick. We have a very poorly constructed roster (yes, even factoring in the excuse about the timing of the hire) and no evidence that suggests that the person responsible for putting the roster together will be held accountable for it or magically figure out how to get better at it for this upcoming offseason.

I think at minimum we need to beat Stanford and find a way to get 2 out of 3 against Wake, Duke, and State to make a bowl game for me to have any optimism moving forward.

Sure it does. Have you not paid attention to the conference payouts for the last many years? The BIG and SEC spend more on parking control for one home game than most ACC schools spend for their annual operating budget. They ooze money in every aspect and it is paying off.

Its nearly a $60 Million gap just in the last 3 years.

I mean there is no reason a school like UNC can't be good in football, too. But bad personnel decisions and being in the ACC has killed them.

It's not bad personnel decisions . It's not being in the ACC looking at Clemson over the last few years.

It's having no legacy as a football school, no football culture, and no willingness to become a football school.

I lived in Athens ,Ga for a few years and watched games between the hedges. I have attended an LSU vs Alabama football game in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night.

A football game in the SEC and a football game in Chapel Hill is, in the words of Mark Twain, the difference between the lightning and the lightning bug.

And look at Clemson now.

Ever since we got defeated by UCF, I recalibrated expectations and was looking primarily for three things.
1. Improvement through coaching. Seen a lot on defense, some on offense, and special teams been solid all year.
2. Effort. This was biggest concern to me, especially after reports of chaos, team in disarray, etc. This is when I was ready to pull plug. Turns out that was either lies or exaggerations. Buddy language was good even during that disaster FH against Clemson. Team is playing hard.
3. Recruiting. It has remained solid. Kids who are on campus seeing what is going on are signing up. I was afraid it would all fall apart.

The major failure has been QB portal whiff and Lopez has gotten better. If he had been no. 1 target that would have been a bigger miss. He was not.

I also never liked the NFL 33rd team deal. It made us easy to mock as clearly we are not NFL team but a bad P4 team.
IMO, the message that was intended, that we will prepare you for NFL through fitness, nutrition and coaching got buried. I think BB is harping on that, we have been a good second half team last three weeks, and recruits are buying in.

I think we will kill portal because, well, we have to. I do not think BB has forgotten how to coach.
I expects a big win against Stanford and strong performances in final three games.

I also believe some of what Roy called stuff has refocused the coaching staff. I really like SB and the DL coach and ST guy too..

Is it because they are still in the ACC ?

They have had a pretty good run since 2015 until this year. 5 trips to the CFP with 2 national championships and nine 10+wins....

If Dabo doesn't finish strong this year his ass will be on the hot seat :p

The portal is ALL about money. If we don’t have Texas Tech money to throw at the portal (including money to retain) then we will not kill the portal. We aren’t getting a Belichick discount in the portal. Players who decide to leave their existing school either want more playing time or more money.

We will see.

Dabo is already toast. Count on that. And Clemson's fall from grace is twofold...the ACC and Dabo being stubborn about the portal. Yes, being in the ACC has hurt them...but it has also padded those stats as far as playoff appearances. Someone from the ACC has to get in. Its kind of like winning the Patriot League to get in the hoops tournament and bragging about the appearance. It really doesn't mean youre very good.

Peppers writing the second volume! You’re not wrong!

His kids are still trying to be professional coaches in the only professional arena they've sniffed, they aren't even in their 40's yet. I see the Belichick trio fighting hard to right the ship vs something akin to throwing in the towel. That doesn't mean they know what they're doing of course. There were clearly giant lessons to learn about HS recruiting and portal recruiting, while painful they seem like easy lessons to learn. And it appears BB himself has lessons to learn about surrounding himself with competent offensive coaches.

Pending "lessons" TBD:
- Can they effectively scheme raw, fundamentally immature players? Steve B did okay at UW. Jedd Fisch is an offensive-minded guy, so the D was Steve B's.

- Can we scout raw vs seasoned, matured athletes? TBD, but if Saban gave remotely decent advice then BB is hiring competent personnel folks (Blaylock and Giddens, Lance Thompson, who knows about NFL's Joe Anile or Lombo).

- Can they teach fundamentals to kids? Were Steve B's OLBs okay at UW?
I asked those questions after Clemson. Now I'd say defensively the staff:
- is teaching fundamentals (and instilling some heart)
- doing a decent job scheming
- did a decent job grabbing portal pieces they could develop into contributors. Hardy, Cost, Allen, Tyler Thompson, Patterson, Leroy were basically the only recognizable names leftover. The rest of the contributions are from the portal (and by all accounts the spring portal was trash).

I think winter portal lessons were learned, and HS recruiting going well, so IMO this experiment hinges on the question of whether the same level of scheming and scouting can happen on the offensive side.

Don't overlook/underestimate the purchasing power the $ is for schools. Just look at Duke in basketball, while UNC has been the highest bidder for several players that went elsewhere. It's not just the now money that players are looking for but also the latter, more, money.
