I’ve made plenty of posts about our schemes this season. You’re by all means welcome to go back and find them if you want.I would enjoy discussing points. The issue is, the critiques aren't about schemes, play design, etc. They're about W-L. So, by all means, jump us off with a good discussion point.
Yep, this is pretty much what I believe UNC’s realistic upside looks like in the current ACC if we ever hit on a coaching hire. We have the financial resources and recruiting advantages to be consistently in that 8-4/9-3 ballpark, and maybe once every 5 years everything breaks right with the schedule and we win double digit games.Agreed 100%. My personal expectation is for UNC football to be a perennial 8-9 win team with the ability to win double digits, and legitimately contend for an ACC title and CFP berth every handful of years or so. We almost always out-talent at least 75% of the teams on our schedule year over year, and often more than that. It would just be nice to consistently have records that reflect such, and then in the occasional year where the schedule and the talent *really* line up favorably, have a year similar to the one that Virginia is currently having. That should not be too much to ask of a program with the kind of resource we have, and located in such a talent-rich state.
how about beating someone other than a fbs high school team ranked higher than 90th? that would be a good start. since you believe we are improving what result would you consider as a worsening vs stanford who is ranked 115th?What would demonstrate improvement to you then?
My goal for Carolina Football is to be a perennial top 25 team (typically somewhere 15th to 25th) and every 5 years or so to be a legitimate ACC championship (and therefore CFP) contender.Agreed 100%. Some fans here, especially the MAGA ones, seem to believe that every final score is proof of larger truths about the quality of coaching
yea it’s pretty much the exact opposite
He didn’t specify, my assumption was season long.Is that this past week's numbers, or all ACC games, or all games?
All. Collins didn't play for Cuse at all, and Gio's QBR was his best of the season vs Cuse. He was efficient, 2 TDs, got great yardage on runs and didn't turn it over. A few of his 200 yards were from screen passes i think, not really challenging throws, but still. Is that this past week's numbers, or all ACC games, or all games?
He obviously knows the defensive side. He didn't inherit much to work with (partly due to self-inflicted portal pain) and the D is looking better and better every week.I think that there is a fascinating gap between how Bill B looks at football and how many of our internet fans think about the game
Prior to this last game Bill had been saying - for weeks - that this team is improving and that he sees clear evidence of players (and coaches) getting better,
He said, more than once, that the score is not really the best measure of the process and the improvement. I tend to agree with that and I certainly agreed with him. It is just pretty obvious that many football games can turn on a couple unfortunate plays or just bad bounces (or poor calls). UNC clearly COULD have beaten UVA and Cal for instance.
Some fans here, especially the MAGA ones, seem to believe that every final score is proof of larger truths about the quality of coaching. I think that Bill B surely WANTS to win, but he is most focused on creating a system and a process. I think he knows the game. I also assume that he thinks that most of these fans - and a surprising number of the press - are morons. Hard to disagree with that.
What about barely losing, in OT, to a ranked UVA team, in which we had bad TO luck?how about beating someone other than a fbs high school team ranked higher than 90th? that would be a good start. since you believe we are improving what result would you consider as a worsening vs stanford who is ranked 115th?
Yea. Not sure where the maga stuff came from. Most folks commenting on here seem anti-bb and clearly maga is the minority here.yea it’s pretty much the exact opposite
Every football coach UNC has ever had knows way more about football than anyone on this message board, or at least the vast majority of us. Does that mean none of us ever can or should offer their opinion on whether any UNC football coach is doing a good job? That strikes me as silly.I would say, for instance, that the endless posts and threads about whether BB is doing a good job are a waste of time. Most seem to be predicated on the assumption that the poster believes that he/she simply knows more than BB. That strikes me as silly,
I don't think anyone here thinks "they know more about football than Bill Belichick". In fact, I think many here would explicitly say the opposite.Earlier in this thread there were some comments about better discussion topics. I really agree with that.

BUT there are tons of discussions one might have about decisions that have been made, when those discussions are framed as analysis of "why" a decision went a particular way, I wish folks would just dispense with these exaggerated notions of how much they know, and how much smarter they are than the OC and the HC and the position coaches. A more interesting question (to me) would ask what variables led the coaching staff to call this play or play this player etc. That is, "why do you think they decided to do this?"
Of course, I think that I am wiser than the POTUS and his entire cabinet, so there is that
Yet if we win out and win a bowl game the offseason hype will be insane. We will likely be preseason top 25 and all the Bill love will be back in full force.I don't think anyone here thinks "they know more about football than Bill Belichick". In fact, I think many here would explicitly say the opposite.
But it doesn't take an engineer to know something's wrong when the building collapses.
We've looked terrible in 3 games this year, beaten 3 bad (or FCS) teams this year, and come up short in crunch time in our other 2 games. While there has seemingly been improvement as the year has gone on, after the UCF game the bar was in hell and even now, with improvement, it's tough to say whether or not we've gotten to mediocre or just merely not-really-bad.
It doesn't take a football savant to know that this team has significant issues and that the problems go a lot deeper than "Why did the coaches decide to do this?" about specific plays or players.
It’s such an obnoxious way to deflect.Every football coach UNC has ever had knows way more about football than anyone on this message board, or at least the vast majority of us. Does that mean none of us ever can or should offer their opinion on whether any UNC football coach is doing a good job? That strikes me as silly.
ive seen uva play 4 times this year. if they are a top 50 team then im george clooney. maybe they play down to their comp because they shouldve lost to a pitiful 2 win wash st team also. duke is the best team we have left and they are borderline top 40. we deserve a lot more with what we are paying and im not giving bb and cronies any leeway whatsoever. i dont give one rats ass about any sports coach...never have. What about barely losing, in OT, to a ranked UVA team, in which we had bad TO luck?
