It may but be the problem, but it is assuredly a problem.

We've sacked Stanford 7 times. We've held them to a 100 yards (2.5 yards a play) and 3 points despite the fact that our offense is ASS and kept our defense on the field for 20 minutes.

Again, the defense is NOT the problem. It is not realistic to expect a defense to shutout the opponent. The nature of modern football is to give up some points.

The problem is the conservative play calling, poor offensive line play, and atrocious QB play.

If Belichick had kept him on as a position coach just for the sake of having some continuity then whatever. Making him the play caller was just asinine, but I guess also makes sense given that Belichick wants to run the most unimaginative offense possible.

My hunch (based on some reporting) is that he got turned down by every potential OC he pursued and eventually named Kitchens because he was available and willing to take the job.
