Good question. It’s not really something that schools publish or discuss publicly so it’d be almost impossible to know what others are doing, but from a UNC standpoint one of my former roommates is in a financial and accounting role at Carolina and shared with me when we sat together at the UVA game a range of numbers (but not exact figures) of what we’d been offering to certain guys (like the Miami and Penn State fellas who flipped in October).
I’m also very curious about that stuff but we’re never going to get concrete numbers unless some sort of salary cap with rules about disclosing payrolls gets implemented. Right now there’s really no upside for any party involved to publicly release exact contract details.

The closest we get right now is ballpark estimates like this one from Matt Norlander (basketball not football, but still).

Half the posts on this page are about Jordon and Pablo and nypost. I didn't fully read the posts, i definitely didn't click the links. Why do we care about her and Pablo? Is she impacting recruiting, or is she the reason Gio was so poor the first 9 games?
It’s not that complicated. Whether you think it’s tabloid trash or not this whole saga with the girlfriend is actually something that is making waves in the media, and it’s interesting that the guy who is famous for keeping everything buttoned up and out of the spotlight is letting it happen.

Damn you’re right now that I think about it. Belichick is just completely powerless in this situation. Poor guy is just another victim of big fake news.
So you don't know? They did an interview for his book. Condition was no talk about personal life. So they are asked how they met. They shut down interview. Big headlines. I mean he could dump her and date a woman his age. I don't pretend to understand the relationship. I wish she would go away. But I also struggle to understand the obsession with it.

Why do we care about our head coach's significant other making herself the center of media attention that is bringing even more negative publicity to an experiment that is already teetering on the brink of disaster, and is yet another glaring indicator that the guy whom we hired for $10M to be the same no-nonsense, no distractions, all football always is actually not that same guy anymore? Golly gee, I just can't quite figure out how the two things must be correlated! There can't possibly be any overlap between the awful management of the football program that we've seen both on and off the field to date, and the fact that our "no-nonsense, no distractions" head coach seems to have....an awful big distraction in his personal life.

Is Jordon missing tackles or dropping passes or causing our quarterback to get sacked or throw interceptions? Is she causing us to punt on 4th and 1 at the 39 yard line or misuse our timeouts? Is she causing our players to make repeated boneheaded personal fouls at inopportune times? Is she causing us to get *multiple* substitution defensive substitution penalties on the same drive? Is she causing us to not know to expect Duke to try a fake field goal because their kicker is garbage? No, of course none of that is her fault. But they are all glaring indicators that her boyfriend- the head coach- may not be quite as sharp anymore or have his "head in the game" in the way that was expected of him when we hired him in the first place.

I know you and 79 know all of this, though. I understand y'all want to defend our coach. I don't find any fault in that at all. I even respect and admire it, even if I disagree with it on the merits. But y'all can't keep pretending that stuff like this occurs in a complete vacuum and has zero affect whatsoever on the program. That's either naive or disingenuous.

I imagine that, for starters, he could consider delivering an ultimatum to the girlfriend that is 5 decades his junior that she is not, under any circumstance, to make a spectacle of herself on social media, and certainly she is not to go on social media announcing that she is filing a frivolous lawsuit against a well-known podcaster.

So shut up woman? Ok
BTW, I don't know that I defend BB. I have pointed out positives. I say again Wednesday after Clemson I was ready to fire him but that was based on some sloppy reporting. I tell people it's not that I support BB it's that I support whoever is coach of UNC in every sport until basically they are not. I don't come on here and second guess everything he does, etc. I also support Hubert when others have not.

So IMO it's less "shut up woman" and more "hey, significant other, you understand that I am the most highly publicly visible employee of the University of North Carolina and the recipient of an extra-extraordinary amount of media attention given that I am the greatest NFL coach of all time, right? You understand that with that territory comes the need for my significant other and myself to conduct ourselves in a manner in which he know and understand that the spotlight is very bright on us, and we should consider doing everything that we can to ensure that all of the attention is on the football program we've been charged with building, and less so on our social media escapades?"

And I truly do respect your desire to not second guess our coaches, of any sport. That's noble and admirable. But I think you have to understand that most fans aren't going to take that track given the resources allocated, the financial skin in the game, and the high-profile visibility that comes with big-time athletics at. a place like UNC. It just is what it is, and it's both the nature of the business and the nature of fans/supporters.

It's also just a needless distraction that shouldn't be there if Belichick actually dealt with it, or even better if he thought having a 24 year old girlfriend was a bad idea in the first place. I think it shows what is mindset is these days, and that he really isn't taking this seriously, that he's coaching at Carolina just for the money and to have something to do because that's what he's done all his life. If he just wants to have fun and have a 24 year-old girlfriend that's his prerogative, but I think it's a sign that he really isn't taking things seriously. It's not the cause of why the team isn't that good, but just a symptom of what's going on with Belichick now. A 74 year old dating a 24 year old is really not a sign that you're making the most practical decisions for your life right now.

Yea. And of course we don't know that has not happened. I mean men have put up with far more for ... Well, you know.

Exactly what I was trying to say.

Thanks for sharing. Did they mention how those numbers stacked up to the player's market value? I ask because I'm wondering if we're having to spend more, less, at market value for these players. I think that is pretty important, when it comes to the way the program is viewed by players and agents.

My sense is that we are spending significantly more than those we are competing against which is a big reason for the success. I dont know that as an absolute but it is my sense. I wonder: 1. Is that sustainable? 2. Does it indicate to any degree at all a different character/mindset of those we attract?
Why do you get that sense? And, when you say significantly more, do you mean in total, or above market value? I know (from IC) that the basketball team is having to "overpay" players because of the way HD is viewed by players and agents as a talent developer, which I hope changes after this year with CWilson balling.

Yeah in a vacuum I don’t really care if he wants to date a 24 year old; I’m not the friggin cardinal. I also think that a lot of the media coverage is probably blowing that situation out of proportion.

That being said…. That’s how the media operates! Belichick himself has always been big about keeping a low profile and not giving the media any ammo that could be distracting to the team. It’s literally a chapter in his book, so kind of ironic that the weird book tour interview was a big part of this story lol. Letting your influencer GF manage your brand or whatever and blur the lines between business and personal relationship (not to mention all of the other times they’ve needlessly stirred up drama and headlines) runs counter to Belichick’s entire shtick.

You summed it up well: the GF is definitely pretty far down the list on why the team is performing so poorly, but it’s still a symptom of the larger problem imo and can’t just be ignored outright.

Who is Steven Godfrey? I don’t doubt that he’s right about this and that a lot of boosters are actually kicking themselves for signing off on this mess, but curious if he is actually sourced on that front or is just speculating.
He's a longtime college football journalist. I think he's currently with Yahoo and also writes for Vox and the Washington Post. Who knows how sourced he is on the UNC booster/admin front, though.

Honest question...have you had many/any productive long term personal relationships?

It isnt about "shut up woman". It is about mutual respect. If Jordon had any ounce of respect for Bill, she would shut up and go away feom the media on her own. She doesn't. Apparently Bill lacks rhe self respect to take action himself. Like it or not, his spouse is a distraction and he needs to take steps to rectify that.
