Highly recommend listening to the IC "Day After" podcast from this morning with Tommy, Buck, and Jason. It is....extremely sobering. If I'm understanding them correctly, it sounds to me like Michael effing Lombardi dictates to assistant coaches which players are going to play and which ones aren't. If that is true- and I am desperately hoping I'm misunderstanding what I heard; in fact, it's so preposterous I'm just going to work off the assumption that I misunderstood- then we are royally FUBAR. As Jason said, UNC is not likely to get this mess fixed while people with the last name Lombardoi remain in the employ of Carolina football.

Precisely. It's why I've gotten such a huge kick out of the folks on IC who keep touting our recruiting class like it's somehow some sort of proof positive guarantee that we're going to magically win 8, 9, 10 games next year. It's like......you know that the same guys who did such a miserable job of assembling *this* roster and coaching *this* team are going to be assembling the roster and coaching next year's team, too, right? People think because we have a handful of 4-star recruits and a handful of 3-star guys who flipped from or had offers from other major programs that it inherently means that we're going to see some magical turnaround. We won't, because the problem isn't the players. The problem resides with the guy who leads the people who are supposed to coach them, teach them, mentor them, develop them, game plan for them, scheme for them, effectively manage the game for them, and teach them discipline, are failing miserably on every single one of those counts. Those things aren't going to change, because Bill Belichick isn't going to change.
I'm in lock step with this perspective. Didn't we have the #8 portal class this season? And we finished as about the 100th best team. So here we go again soon with unsupported rah-rah cheerleading based on recruit and transfer rankings, when that stuff is not the reason we were SO BAD this season. We significantly underperformed our talent. Unless the coaching staff changes we should expect more of the same next season -- but with even younger and less experienced players and a much harder schedule.

He isnt changing much of anything i dont expect. It isnt in his nature to accept that he doesn't know something or that he's made a mistake.
Exactly. He thinks he is the reason for the Patriots' success. He is a narcacissist and his whole hire was a political move by the BOT in the first place.

I don’t think you misunderstood, I got the same impression and it made zero sense to me.

We scored 11 TDs in those games by my quick count. He threw for 6 and ran for 2. Percentage was actually 68 percent. It is not a worthless stat because it moves the chains. All that said, I think we need to get a playmaker for QB. We also need a running game. Gio had bad OC, bad OL, anemic running game and apparently was injured for the FH of the season. I just think the kid has been scapegoated way beyond his fair share of the blame.
Completion percentage does not move the chains. First downs move the chains. And we were near the very bottom of the country in that stat.

And the new AD will likely still be under the thumb of the powers-that-be who dictated this hire. And if Hubert goes at the end of this season they'll also be the people who will likely dictate his successor. Sigh.
Yeah, hiring a guy from NASCAR to be the new AD had the MAGA BOT written all over it.

Going to watch portal with interest, not only incoming but outgoing. Culliver announced today. Big talent but appears to be headcase. Obviously Shipp is huge. Hoping we can keep most of DL, Patterson the CB, Banfield, June, and some others. I think this potentially is big referendum in BB and Lombo.

I agree that the upcoming portal, particularly outgoing, is a referendum on Operation Belichick.
