Jimmy & Joes > X & O's. Coaches can set the floor, but players set the ceiling. 4 wins is an ugly floor, but a remotely decent QB on this team would've changed that. We're all familiar with mediocrity and poor seasons, now we need cash if we want more.
(I think BB is famous for saying that character sets the ceiling... but he's referring to players alone and not including coaching impact)
We had something around the 40th-most talented roster in the country this year and about the 100th best team. Now we're paying for the 5th-best recruiting class, getting the 25th-best, and expecting what, the 75th-best team? Does that seem kosher to you?

And I also don't appreciate whitewashing this season as just another "mediocrity" or "poor season." every other season this program has had that was even close to as bad within my lifetime got coaches fired.

That loss was brutal. Isn’t that also the game where we fucked up their visitor’s locker room or something too that added insult to injury?
Not sure if it’s what you’re referring to, but we won the game in which we also refreshed the Wallace Wade visitors locker room with a coat of paint.

Fedora didn't get fired after 2017. That was I think his sixth year.

He definitely had a couple of outstanding performances; he also lost to d00k who was 0-5 in the ACC.
Wasn’t the season that Mack Hollins got hurt? Until he got hurt, I don’t think anyone realized how the entire offense depended on his ability to stretch the defense.

40th? Source?

Eta: yes, this is worse than mediocre, but we've had similarly awful results-wise in the past just with different expectations.

They may be talking about the 247 Team Talent Rankings that had UNC 31st coming into the season, to go along with a Team Portal ranking of 9th.

And those are meaningless, invalid, misguiding because they're based on HS rankings rather than portal rankings which are mostly lower and our team was largely dependent on portal players. @akillesheel
Just because they aren’t perfect doesn’t mean they’re completely meaningless or invalid lol. They can still give you a ballpark idea of a team’s talent level as long as you realize the limitations.

UNC was objectively more talented than: Charlotte, Richmond, UCF, Syracuse, Stanford, and Wake Forest this year. I don’t know how it could be argued otherwise. I would personally argue that we were overall more talented than Cal, Virginia, Duke, and NC State, or at the very least about as talented as those teams, and certainly not *less* talented than any of them, but each of them had quarterback play that was so far and away better than ours. We were not more talented than Clemson and TCU.

UNC going 4-8 against this schedule is arguably the biggest underachievement in program history. A *bad* UNC team should have been 6-6 against it. To go 4-8 is damn near unforgivable.
