Just catching back up on the thread. Sincere appreciation to all of those who provided the additional clarification in context about Zayden High and Jalen Felton.

Wow. Dang. Thats rough for us to have Bryce Baker transferring having never taken a single snap. I don’t think there can be any candy coating a high 4 star in-state kid from our most fertile recruiting territory leaving after never getting a single chance even when our offense was the worst in school history.

Also illustrates why I dont understand the concept of paying high school kids big money. 75%+ of the kids in this year's class will never play meaningful snaps for carolina.

Supposedly most get a lot more the second year than the first... with a wink wink understanding that they won't be around to collect year 2 if they have no promise to play the second year
But yea

Yes. Ben has story on on3 IC.
A report saying Baker is happy? I have not seen that.

I can't imagine anyone thinking a 4 star QB would be happy as a 4th string QB with no snaps on the year, especially when passed by someone in his same class that was less highly recruited.

Looks like Bobby Petrino will be our new OC

All I have to say is that UNC is ALL IN. We've landed in the new world and Cortez has burned all the ships. I just hope in 3 years we find ourselves in Jamestown instead of Roanoke.

Per wiki timelines Bobby's bro Paul Petrino was the WR coach at South Alabama while Gio was the starting QB. Many folks said this experiment would be highly entertaining regardless of the outcome, sure is.

Hopefully, this hiring resolves some of @Milk and Cookies concerns. As I recall, he didn't think we were moving on from Freddie fast enough or hiring a new OC quick enough.
Somewhat of a mixed bag. On the plus side we've hired an active college coach from a comparable program (as opposed to a retired coach or NFL guy with no college player contacts) who should be able to pull some players with him. On the minus side its still a late signing (11 days till portal opening) and he's earned a reputation both professionally and personally for being untrustworthy.

What are you seeing that I’m not seeing? Is there anyone disparaging Bryce Baker?
I’m reading people expressing concern that an in-state 4-star leaving after his freshman season without playing a down on a piss-poor offensive team is disconcerting and worrisome.

I imagine he means on IC. And if so, it should be "IC football board folks doing what IC football board folks do". I would not characterize a lot of those folks as actual UNC fans in the sense of supporting the university.
Oh gotcha gotcha, goodness, I was going to say, I don’t know if I did a poor job articulating my post or not but I definitely did not mean to seem like I was putting down Baker and I did not see anyone else here doing it either so that would make way more sense about it being IC

I'm speaking more to the timing than the quality. You were very worried that Freddie was still the official OC in early December.

I suppose the hiring could/should have been made a couple weeks earlier, but I think it is far more important that the right hire be made. Whether this is the right hire remains to be seen. Agenda item No. 1 is substantially upgrading the QB position.

I may be totally wrong on this as I often am but I think agenda item number one, two, and three has to be the OL. We are in dire straits there right now. It is essentially going to take hitting a royal flush to be able to field a good OL next fall, given how few starter type instant impact OL guys there typically are in the portal and how exorbitantly expensive those few are. And if we can’t field a good OL next fall, the QB isn’t going to matter.

Think I posted this in here a few weeks ago but when a team has a QB room with 2 rising sophomore 4*s, a highly touted incoming 4* freshman, and is also probably going to be looking for a proven QB from the portal, something has to give. Honestly the writing has been on the wall that Bryce would end up being the one to transfer.

It’s not the worst problem to have but I guess time will tell as to whether or not the staff juggled all of those pieces correctly here. They haven’t exactly earned the benefit of the doubt in that regard.
