Apparently 36 out of 38;freshman will be enrolled for spring. Got to like that a lot.
That is good. Honestly, I hope it means they intend to play them. If we are paying them (and we are), then we need them in game reps. We are going to be not good next year anyway so those kids need to learn as expeditiously as possible.

Heels get 4th portal commit. Jaxcon warren. 6-7 235 TE. Played two games for Colorado state and missed rest of year injured. Dud catch six passes for TD against Washington in season opener
IC is in full meltdown. No it enough commitments, little info out there, and no.star power. Actually amusing. We did have LSU CB and PSU DE in campus and I think both are 4 stars.
Should be interesting week.

It is very interesting (and risky) to take several people coming back from almost no playing time and season-ending injuries. Those are pretty speculative portal pickups.

Maybe they came at discount.
Maybe so...but the term "discount" is relative when they have demonstrated no value up to that point. That's kind of what I'm saying. BB seems to be using the portal more like a draft and hoping that people work out vs. using it like free agency and getting known quantities. Sometimes you get a Tom Brady. Often, you don't.

I think we desperatedly hope to get some gems. But we don't have proven value money
One last shot at being "genius "
Obviously that would be fun-not betting on it

Yep, I think that's largely what it boils down to. We spent whatever funds we had in the high school class and we are taking unknown quantities in the portal as a result. It's certainly a strategy. It's not a strategy I agree with or I think will be successful, but it's a strategy. If I'm looking in the crystal ball, we end up paying a bunch of kids a bunch of money who end up at new schools not playing for our next coach in 2 years.

I was kind of joking on discount. More seriously on same thread that everyone whining about just 4 players etc. Someone posted that 3 starters for major programs hit portal yesterday. I think two from Alabama. Not going back to look. But point is this is a process and staffs must see who is in and who isn't and make decision. Everyone thinks our portal class last year was a bust but it was ranked no. 8. (I agree upon reflection not that good). And that was with rush job for first portal opening. I think we will do fine in portal but how a person judges it will probably mostly be determined by their thoughts on BB etc

Portal has low numbers that are a "big Deal" and they want to play on a likely CFP team. Certainly every year College footbal players show up great without being "4 star ,5 star". Hopefully we get some

Virginia is a really good example of a non-blue blood type team that did a phenomenal job in the portal last year. Their best players came from North Texas, New Mexico State, NC Central, Morgan State, UAB, Arkansas State, UNLV, Elon, and Tennessee Tech (they did get three guys from Louisville, Alabama, and Ohio State who were also significant contributors). I think that programs like UVA, UNC, Duke, etc. who aren't blue blood types but who have ample funds to disperse can do well by not focusing on the "stars" and instead mining the G5 and FCS ranks for highly productive players who fly under the radar. (I do think, as I said yesterday, that the notable exception to this is on the OL; I think that with rare exception the most successful OL to P4 transfers come from very high-level G5 or other P4 strictly because of the physicality aspect of the P4 trenches is nearly impossible to replicate at other levels).

What Virginia did extremely well is go for "production over potential." That is, ignore the flashy 5-star and 4-stars who had the hype and potential but not the production, and instead find guys at those lower levels who had. the production and who also fit exactly what they want to do *both* schematically AND culturally (with the latter being just as important, if not more important, than the former). This strategy led them to the ACC title game, a school-record 11 wins, and a Gator Bowl win over a good SEC team.

Do coaches measure kids on visits? Like have them broad jump, vert jump, take their weight, measure arm-length etc? Or are they just giving an eye-ball test?

Seems like a near certainty that we will need to get multiple TEs in the portal, so hard to get too much up in arms over getting someone who is injury-prone (perhaps) as one of them.

247 quote from Andrew Threatt indicates Christo is returning. At this rate we're going to wind up with closer to 50 new faces rather than 70 this yr.

Just got former DL for Florida. Brown. Did not play much there. Actually joined as walkon. 6-7 296. Name is brown. Looks like he has 3 years left.
