They seem to be delaying his induction as a soft punishment for his perceived wrongdoings from spygate, deflategate and maybe general character over his career. Its certainly been used similarly in baseball with guys like Piazza and Bagwell and in football with TO.
What did Piazza and Bagwelll do?

But Papi and Pudge got in.

Bonds, Clemens, and ARod never will.

The baseball writers are all over the map when it comes to PEDs.
I wouldn't say that the baseball writers are all over the map.

Papi & Pudge were associated with steroids through the 2003 testing that wasn't meant to be made public and has only been shared through supposed leaks. Neither have other solid evidence.

Bonds, Clemens, & ARod have much, much more direct evidence of use and it's widely accepted all 3 used PEDs.

If you would like, you can fault the baseball writers for considering PED use at all or for giving it their best shot to parse between rumored and effectively proven PED users, but they've pretty much drawn a clear line between rumors and all-but-proven fact as a determining factor in how they vote (as a whole).

They are picking and choosing which roiders they let in.

Bonds and Clemens both deny using PEDs.

There are several known, obvious roiders in the HOF. I'm sure there are several other who at a minimum tried them at some point.

Scapegoating the 3 best players of their generation is pretty idiotic.

Barry Bonds used PEDs
Barry Bonds is the greatest baseball player to ever lace cleats.
Both of those can be true. His Pirates numbers alone make him worthy of the HOF.

The first season of Chapel Bill ended with a disappointing 4-8 record and another offseason roster overhaul. After bringing in 41 transfers in Year 1, general manager Michael Lombardi reversed course in Year 2 and inked the second-largest high school recruiting class in the country (39 signees).

UNC’s portal class includes 19 newcomers and features only one starter from a Power 4 school last season: receiver Trech Kekahuna (Wisconsin). The Tar Heels, meanwhile, have to replace 15 starters. The tough-to-stomach part is why some of the good pickups from last year were not retained, such as defensive linemen CJ Mims (Texas A&M) and D’Antre Robinson (Oregon) along with linebacker Khmori House (Arkansas). Those guys are being replaced by players from FCS programs.

Quarterback also remains a question mark on the roster with 11-game starter Gio Lopez off to Wake Forest. The Tar Heels brought in Texas A&M backup Miles O’Neill and former Maryland and Wisconsin starter Billy Edwards Jr. to compete for the job.

Bonds wasn’t “the greatest player to ever lace cleats” until he used PEDs.

I agree that Bonds’ pre-PED numbers were Hall-worthy, which is why it’s so sad he threw that away to use PEDs.

I'm not sure how long Barry would have played but it would be interesting to see what his numbers would have looked like without the roids.

Yeah he could really see the ball and had a perfect swing, speed and power. I don’t give PEDs credit for that but I’m not bothered he’s not in the hall either.

Exactly. Barry was on another level in terms of hitting. His hand eye coordination and ability to pick up the spin on the ball had nothing to do with roids.

We know what they would have looked like, because he had an established level of performance. From age 27 to age 35, (that's 1992-2000), he had 9 straight years of OPS between 1.000 and 1.12. That was the real puzzle and shame. He was already a HOFer. He wasn't like Mark McGwire, coming off two seasons of 27 and 47 games, themselves two seasons removed from hitting .203. Or Sammy Sosa, who had raw talent but had never quite put it together. He was already one of the best players in baseball.

But then, at age 36, his OPS suddenly jumped to the unnatural heights of 1.38, 1.38, 1.28, 1.42. There's no way that happens without roids. No way.

QB 'remains a question mark' seems harsh unless the author expected us to compete with LSU and Miami for guys like Leavitt, Hoover, Mensah.

Yes, but Clemens did so with such comic implausibility that nobody could ever take him seriously ever again. and he was on the Blue Jays when Canseco showed up and started passing out the roids, so there's a very strong circumstantial case.

Oh he definitely used but so did Papi, Pudge, Bags, Biggio, Piazza, and many others.
