Don’t think they would put us in Mayo Bowl two years in a row.
It was a poast mocking ANY bowl UNC plays in in 2024. This UNC team shouldn’t be in ANY bowl game.

We’re a shitty team. Shitty teams shouldn’t go to bowl games.

Some UNC fans think UNC played in a major bowl when UNC lost to TAMU in the Orange Bowl.

We lost to a mediocre team in a shitty bowl.

Ok.

The Orange Bowl is shitty and the #4 team in the final AP and Coaches Polls was mediocre. That's certainly a take.

Under no circumstance that only Top 10 or Top 15 teams make a major bowl does that UNC team make the Orange Bowl.

UNC “made” the Orange Bowl under BULLSHIT circumstances.

UNC hasn’t made a “major” bowl since the ‘40’s.

Zoo certainly has his points, and they're not lost on anyone here.
However, the Heels "seem" to be playing a little bit better... but is that saying much in the ACC this season?
Of course not. But, they are playing a bit better over-all and have an outside chance of going 8-4 (5-3).
A lot of folks on this board were saying 8-4 would be a disappointment, but others were saying 8-4 is the ceiling for this team and has been the ceiling for Tar Heel football (for the most part) for decades. A few 10 or 11 win seasons sprinkled in there since 1970 has been it. 8-4 is considered a "good season" for Heels fans. Like it or not.

My hope for this team is to finish 8-4, and go to another mediocre bowl game - a long way away from NC - and luck into a bowl victory finishing 9-4. I'd really like to finish off with a good taste in my mouth unlike the last 4 years.

Is that too much to ask?
Probably...

I’m just really happy for the players and coaches. This season could have easily gone down the tubes after the Georgia Tech debacle coupled with the tragedy of losing Tylee. It’s a credit to every single person in the program that it did not.

We are finally playing the way that I thought we could play this season: solid, disruptive defense that forces turnovers paired with an effective offense that relies heavily upon Omarion Hampton being arguably the best back in the country. I would be thrilled to finish the regular season on a 5 game win streak and with a win over NC State.

For those that watched the broadcast, any comment on the pass interference called against us in the first half (down the right sideline on a long pass) and then the one not called in the fourth quarter that was also a long pass we made down the right sideline?

Was at the game and wanted to hear more thoughts on those.

My only comment is that ACC refs suck so you should go into every game expecting inconsistent and horrible calls and just hope you are the beneficiary of the incompetence. Yesterday we ended up on the short end, but that’s just life in the ACC.

I was at the game, but I know why they called it. Marcus Allen was beat and he put his hand on the receiver’s back. But that isn’t what caused the miss. The receiver then tripped over his feet. The Allen contact looked bad to the trailing official and he called what he saw. It was bad call but Allen gets called for PI a lot because he gets beat a lot.

Coaches and players deserve ton of credit for fighting through some stuff. We lost 3 winnable games playing without our best defensive player, two key offensive lineman, and with a no. 3 qb who was out of shape and learning the system. Also during a time when they had a front row seat watching a teammate die a slow and horrible death that probably had a lot of them struggling to focus. I am not sure there is a better coach than Mack to guide them through all of that. That is not an argument fur him to get another year but the six year streak under Mack is probably in top 5 for UNC history. Mack has always won through recruiting better players and he was doing that but NIL and portal makes that really hard now. If we bunch after the season the shame IMO is we finally got a good staff of assistants. Anyway last 3 weeks have been fun and season somewhat salvaged.

I'm aware of the circumstances. The notion that we played in a shitty bowl against a mediocre team in 2020 remains inaccurate.

Playing #5 Texas A&M in the Orange bowl was a mediocre bowl and mediocre opponent. What insane logic lmao. I thought I had seen it all on this message board previously.

Neither TAMU nor UNC was play/off bound.

It was a meaningless bowl between two meaningless teams……

Almost all of you have to Google when did UNC last play in the Orange Bowl and who did UNC play to name the year.

Non-UNC fans (99.9% of the college football universe) have to Google who was in that Orange Bowl……then Google again to see the winner. NO ONE gives a shit about that bowl game and the only people who regard it as a “major bowl” are fans of the two “sleeping giants” in college football.

It was a mediocre, meaningless game between two teams who didn’t matter.

It was the second most watched bowl game of 2020 (not counting the three playoff games) and the most-watched game in the history of UNC football. Texas A&M finished 4th that year -- its highest ranking since 1939.

“2nd most watched bowl game not counting the three playoff games….”

That’s amazing!

TAMU’s highest ranking since 1939……that’s amazing!

An Orange Bowl after an 11-0 season back in the ‘70’s or ‘80’s would have been impressive. That’s EARNING a berth in a major bowl.

If losing the Orange Bowl to a mediocre program like TAMU is a celebratory high-water mark for UNC, we should just shut down the football “program.”
