This is the truly unforgiveable part of this loss. It is inexcusable that the final minute played out the way it did.The most infuriating part of it is that Georgia Tech was not even trying to win in regulation. They were handing the damn ball off trying to get to overtime.
Equally as infuriating is the fact that our coaching staff doesn’t understand Pop Warner level clock management. When you have first and goal inside the 10 yard line with under a minute, and you’ve got a time out in your pocket, and your opponent has two timeouts in their pocket, you run the damn ball on first down and second down and make them burn those two timeouts. Then you do whatever you decide to do on third down, hopefully scoring a touchdown and winning the game, but if not, being able to kick the game tying field goal that sends the game to overtime with just a second or two left on the clock. Absolutely unfathomable that Georgia Tech even had the opportunity to do what they did.
You could copy and paste this for an alarming amount of our losses under Mack. It is astounding how terrible he is at managing close games.This is the truly unforgiveable part of this loss. It is inexcusable that the final minute played out the way it did.
Yeah, we're playing at UVA this year and Mack just never seems to do well there, so it's probably a loss. And I don't care how bad State is this year, Doeren will have them fired up and ready to play us when we meet, so I'm not optimistic at all about the outcome of that game. Doeren has Mack's number, imo.Rest of the season:
@Uva- always a tough game for us so probably a loss
@FSU- they are terrible but they will get right for us, loss
Wake Forest- probably only decent chance for a win and I think we will
@Boston College- running qb, loss
State- while they are having a crap year as well their defense will shut us down, loss
I've come to the conclusion that the quintessential Mack statement of his second stint here came last year when he basically said at the end of the season that winning 8 games was doing really good here given the history of UNC football, and implied that UNC fans shouldn't expect anything better. And I think that describes his mindset perfectly - just post a winning record most years and get to a bowl game (whether we win it or not shouldn't matter) and UNC fans should be happy, given our mediocre history.You could copy and paste this for an alarming amount of our losses under Mack. Somehow I'm picturing a dominatrix in this scene...I’m a lifelong diehard UNC football fan and I didn’t watch today until the very end and it’s just because I was forced to watch it.
It's not that surprising given that was when the potential of Mack 2.0 was at an all-time high. Once the shine started to wear off, he wasn't going to get top tier coordinators because no one with any real potential wants to hitch their wagon to an old coach with limited upside.Ironically, it turns out that the two best coaches of Mack 2.0 were Longo and Bateman.
Haha. Seth was pretty good hereI have a solution to UNC’s woes. They had a very good offense a little less than a decade ago. They should go all out to get that guy back. I think his name is Seth something or other.
I suggest grabbing him today but he will be available shortly.
Longo wasn’t perfect and had moments of questionable situational play calling, but his offenses here had a lot of explosive plays and scored at a high clip. He’s light years better than Chip Lindsey imo.Ironically, it turns out that the two best coaches of Mack 2.0 were Longo and Bateman.
I wasn't sure quite what to make of us preseason due to the uncertainty around the QB position, but I thought we'd very likely be somewhere between 6-6 and 8-4.I was expecting 2 losses, 3 at the most with their schedule. Now I don't know if they will win 2 more games. Maybe against FSU and State. I am expecting them to lose the rest of the games more than anything now.
