A lot of times when we don’t land a recruit who lives in UNC’s backyard, a lot of folks freak out and think something must be really wrong with recruiting. But a lot of kids (most?) don’t want to go to school so close to home. They want to spread their wings a little bit, get away from home, create some space between themselves and their parents, and create some distance from what they’ve always known. I think it’s more common for kids who are going off to college to want that than it is for them to want to stay as close as home as possible.

Dunno man, that hypothesis doesn't fit at this stage anyway bc of State's inclusion.

Will Wade can flat out and recruit and coach -- state will be good and quicker than most expect.

This is a huge recruiting year for Hubert... if he misses on all our top choices and the team is mediocre this season, the program could be in real trouble. And from all that I have seen it is not going well so far on the recruiting front...
 
If the team is mediocre this year we are starting from scratch regardless. This is the prove it year for Hubert.

well they've actually been good every other year... the challenge is momentum.

Unless the team really make some noise this year wouldn't we need a pretty good season to be backed up with a really good season?

Personally I think how things go on-court this season is a lot more important for Hubert than how recruiting goes. IMO it's a make or break year in terms of team results; we either have a great team (opinions about that would mean may vary) or he's done. I think if we play great on the court, recruiting/portal will likely take care of itself. If we aren't good enough, it won't matter how well recruiting is going.

Sure, but I was talking about the point that if we're mediocre this year and recruiting is bad then the program is in trouble. My point was if we're mediocre this year we're starting over anyway so Hubert's recruiting wouldn't really matter. I suppose you could make the argument that the new coach might have a head start on retaining some recruits, but any new coach is going to have to build their own relationships.

Tough recruiting is one of the obvious side effects of retaining a coach who is on the hot seat. It's predictable that recruiting will be a bit of a struggle this year given the unknowns around the program.

I agree, though, that the results of the season will be a much bigger input into HD's future than reruiting. That's where the rubber will certainly meet the road.
 
Highlight reel for a player we are currently recruiting, whose mom played for the Heels. I don’t normally post such things, but… Jesus.

That’s why I said it doesn’t seem like much of a miss if he eliminates State as well. But if he goes to State, it’s a different story.

I haven’t really been following recruiting much lately. What else is happening?

I appreciate the journey. I’ve always enjoyed watching the Darrell Elstons, Dudley Bradleys, Mike Peppers, Pete Chilcutts, Kevin Salvadoris, Shammond Williams, Jackie Manuels, David Noels, Deon Thompsons, Bryce Johnsons, and others go from ineffectual underclassmen to contributing players on good-to-great teams.

I don’t appreciate puffball PR pieces written by “journalists” such as Inside Carolina, GoHeels, and other websites whose business depends on some degree of access to UNC athletics.

This “article” reminded me of previous “articles” in which on certain UNC football teams the WR and DB “rooms” and the DL and OL “rooms” talked up the talent levels of their counterparts. Then, a game against an opponent happened.

Those talented “rooms” didn’t exist.
