(I accidentally put this on the wrong thread, so I'm moving it over.)
I've been thinking about this Luka thing and I've wondered if this might be the issue...
According to published reports, Luka has done 2 years of college-level work while a professional basketball player since graduating HS.
When the NCAA restores a players amateur eligibility after playing professional sports, they typically not only reinstate eligibility, they often do so with a "number of years" determination as to how many years of eligibility the player has left.
Carolina has been referencing Luka as a Junior and so I wonder if the NCAA has reinstated Luka with 2 years of eligiblity remaining.
However, if enough of Luka's classes didn't meet Carolina requirements for transfer, I'm wondering if there could be a situation where Luka passes admissions to the University and where the NCAA grants eligibility, but Luka doesn't have enough transferable credits to be considered a Junior in good standing for athletic purposes (based against NCAA standards on progress toward graduation). If that is the case, would he have to be held out until he had suitable credits to be meet NCAA eligiblity requirements toward graduation?
And it may have been that UNC had to wait until the NCAA ruled on Luka's eligibility reinstatement to see how many years of eligiblity the NCAA would provide before knowing if this would be an actual issue or not.
To be clear, I have no inside knowledge here and this is all conjecture, but as I thought about the situation this morning, this potential situation gave me pause.
