I very much miss the data that would be listed when a player was shooting a free throw...while I may be misremembering but it seems that way back yonder they even used to list a player's major (or at least often mention it). I use an app to get that sort of information now and calculating the biorhythms also means that I check out player bios both for our guys and the opposition.
I do remember the days when they listed players’ majors. It was as recent as the 1990s. Do basketball players even have majors anymore?

Oh yes
For many years I could-most fans could-name the home town and high school of every player the last twenty years.Today it is barely mentioned. It's either -"transfer from college X "-or - "went to Basketball Academy Y'
It ruins the whole Rudy emotional tie we had with players
Totally. Nowadays before the players even get the the first of the four colleges they’ll attend, they’ve been the four different high schools. It’s like they never had a home.

And of course a guy like Trimble pretty much has to have a major: "Majoring in exercise and sport science in the sport administration program."

Elijah Davis is a Sr. "Majoring in exercise and sport science in the sport administration program."

Stevenson was an Honor Roll student at Alabama but has no major listed (He's a Junior). Veesaar, Evans, Young, Smith, are all Juniors with no majors listed. Holbrook is a sophomore ("Expects to major in pre-business administration.").

Interesting that they have Bogavac listed as a Freshman.

In Isaac Schade's "Locked on Tar Heels" podcast he had a HS coach on as a guest who's been attending practices. He says Dixon has been killing it in practice at point guard. Ray Allen (who came to one of the practices) was impressed by him. Hubert made the point of telling Allen that Dixon is a true freshman.

Take it for what it's worth.

Good to hear. I hope it translates to the games this year.

It's only because the technology didn't allow the endless graphics and cutaways at that time.

That is actually Coach _____ Robinson at Division III Milligan College in Tennessee -- he has been a long-time worker at the Basketball Camps/Schools in the summer and has actually written a book about that experience that I would love to read.
Thanks. He was also interviewed recently on Adam and Jones' podcast. Had lots of good stories to tell about basketball camps. Once, in the 90s, Guthridge was supervising/coaching the young HS freshman boys. After the first day, Robinson was present in a coaches meeting when Guthridge mentioned to Dean that he had a young, skinny player in his group that needed to be moved up 3 or 4 levels to the top group. Dean told Guthridge (in his Dean voice) that Bill, "that would be highly unusual." Dean watched the player the next day. It was Antown Jameson. Dean moved him up.

I was rewatching a mid-2000s game recently and they had floating boxes with the player’s year and major during free throws. It might not have been every time but they definitely did it every now and then.

I remember this because several of them had Af-Am Studies listed as their major and it gave me brief PTSD lol.

And all the dook players were sociology majors.

It was also in game programs.

It does give me a laugh when dook fans try to make fun of UNC for the academic scandal. The Af-Am classes Rashad McCants took were still more difficult than whatever NCCU online credits that their one and dones take for half a semester to stay eligible for basketball season.

Please don't trigger me to go back to Shark Tank
