There is something there with this team.
The questions are:
1- Can they fully capture what that something is?
2- Can they make it happen more consistently?

Hard to overstate how important that win was. Resume vastly improved by it. 5 losses with 4 of those to top ten teams and mostly very competitive games. Other loss to top twenty team in OT. Wins over top 15 and top 30 teams. Kenpom jumped from 44 to 29 I think.

And here is the perfect snapshot of the difference in wins and losses: after losses, postgame interviews are somber affairs conducted barely above a whisper in a solemn room.

Today, as Jackson was finishing, assistant coach Pat Sullivan walked in to listen to the final couple of minutes. The Bogota, N.J., native, who speaks Jackson's rapid-fire New York language, could barely contain himself while the microphone was on. As soon as it clicked off, he grabbed Jackson by the shoulder.

"Hey," Sullivan said in that sharp New York accent. "Were you talking about defense in that interview? Ian Jackson? Talking about defense?"

The both broke into laughter. Jackson, a natural scorer, has never had to play much defense, or even notice what took place on that end of the court. Now he was singling it out as a key factor in a win.

"That's growth, baby!" Sullivan said, and bounded out of the room.

The problem with this season is it's mostly a repeat of 2022-23. An imperfect roster that still has a ton of talent, losing every close game because they fail (or don't know how) to adjust

Last year was a huge step in the right direction for Hubert (I thought at the time) but he is right back to where he started. I mean he has pretty much admitted as much, that he doesn't know how to fix things with this group

Just watch the offense. It's horrible and the only thing that keeps them in games is tough 1 on 1 shot making or points off turnovers. It makes you wonder how last year would've went if RJ doesn't shoot such a ridiculous %
Davis shot 39.8% 3FG% last season, which was ranked 201 among qualifiers. That doesn't seem "ridiculous".

What does seem ridiculous is a 1st team AA and career 36% 3FG shooter with a "ridiculous" career low 25.5 3FG%.

Here are some numbers on 3pt Shooting

Last season, #70 = 35.7%
(For context, dook was #15 = 37.7%)
This season, #252 = 31.3%
(dook is #111 = 35%)

2023-24 3-Pt Shooting
35.9% —>Team
301-839 —>Team
RJ = 113-284
W/out RJ = 188-555 (33.9%)

This Season, 11 games in, 3-Pt Shooting
31.6% —>Team
91-288 —>Team
RJ = 24-94
W/out RJ = 67-194 (34.5%)=[#130]
