UNC administration placed Dwayne Dixon, a professor of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, on administrative leave on Monday, effective immediately. The decision follows reports of Dixon's alleged affiliation with "Redneck Revolt," an organization that describes itself as an “anti-racist, anti-fascist, community defense formation.”
In a statement to The Daily Tar Heel, Stoyer wrote that Dixon's placement on leave follows "recent reports and expressions of concern regarding alleged advocacy of politically motivated violence."

The organization, founded in 2016, is a network that promotes working-class solidarity through mutual aid, anti-racist organizing and, in some chapters, armed training under the name John Brown Gun Clubs.

According to the organization's website, Dixon is a member of Redneck Revolt's Silver Valley Chapter. Dixon told The DTH that Redneck Revolt dissolved in 2019 and that he left the Silver Valley Chapter in 2018.

IMO these are the kinds of battles that are ultimately going to backfire on the right. Taking adverse action against a professor solely for an alleged outside affiliation with a group, one that is isn't even alleged to have done anything wrong, that has zero effect on his teaching or research or what he says to his students. The most likely outcome from this, if UNC fires him, is a very expensive settlement that the university has to pay out. And for what?

I hope this doesn’t happen, but I’m growing more and more concerned that UNC is going to become a case in point of what happens when a once respected, once elite public university becomes MAGAfied. We are already losing incredibly talented and accomplished faculty members and researchers left and right to other institutions. If this kind of political partisan bullshit continues to happen at UNC, we are going to look back on our time as a stalwart top five public university in America as firmly in the rearview mirror.

You share my concern for my beloved alma mater.

For several years now UNC has been attacked by the GQP NC legislature in order to bring the prestige of our university down to ncst levels.

UNC is not only an academically elite university but it has been one of the top research universities bringing in NIH funds to pursue medical research that can allow us to find and mediate and/or cure medical issues.

Trump and RFK ,Jr are cutting if not eliminating that UNC funding. And I confess that I am behind keeping up with this ongoing attack.

Has Lee Roberts called on Trump and RFK, Jr to eliminate those research grants and call on the GQP General Assembly to stop diminishing the state funding of UNC ?

I think this has already happened, to be honest.

I don't consider UNC on the level of Berkeley, UCLA, Ann Arbor, U of I . . . well, I guess we can slip in there at #5. But yeah, trending down. And UT Austin would have pushed us out except they are dealing with the same bullshit,.

From a Dukie... I hope not.

Really think this is the appropriate course of action. You've got a professor who has espoused violent political action and has joined a militia. They suspended him pending an investigation, not fired him.

If it turns out that he's just a bit of a blowhard, he'll be back. If it turns out he is violent, they should kick him off campus. And we would all say the same thing if it was some right wing loon.

And what about their constant claims that everyone has unlimited free speech? And claims that only the left is involved in cancel culture.

Is there actually any evidence that the professor has "espoused violent political action"? And is there any evidence that this group you refer to as a "militia" has ever actually perpetrated any acts of violence?

He left the group 7 years ago, the group dissolved 6 years ago, I'll be surprised if there is anything substantial.

"On Sept. 27, Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet made a post on X calling for Dixon’s termination, following the appearance of John Brown Gun Club recruitment flyers seen on Georgetown University’s campus. The flyers, seen last Wednesday and Thursday, read “Hey, Fascist! Catch! The only political group that celebrates when Nazis die.”

The phrase was reportedly engraved on a shell casing recovered following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Utah Valley University’s campus on Sept. 10. The flyer also included a scannable QR code encouraging viewers to join the John Brown Club."

Hey Chris, question for you: Is there any reason you reported this info to us by showing us a video from a well-known alt-right site like Rebel News? Is this a site that you like to frequent to get info?

Another question: Why do you have a problem with anyone labeling themselves as Antifa? Why does your side choose to embrace fascism instead of reject it?

One more question: How do you feel about cancel culture? For or against?

I'm concerned about my affiliation with this forum. Hope Trump doesn't find out I post here.
