Sure - but with today's NIL and transfer portal, we should absolutely be able to compete at Duke's level in year 5And with only seven First Round draft picks, to boot.

Well we do have. I think 4 final four game wins since dooks last FF game win in 2015Sure - but with today's NIL and transfer portal, we should absolutely be able to compete at Duke's level in year 5
I get some really good stuff online. Is that where you get what you're smoking? If so, could you share a link?Sure - but with today's NIL and transfer portal, we should absolutely be able to compete at Duke's level in year 5
If we only want to base it off of his record, his record against "peer" schools: 17 - 35. (Q1 games). That is not good enough.4 1/2 seasons in...
115-49 ( 70 % )
four 20 win seasons
1 FF lost in NCAA championship game
1 ACC regular season "championship"
1 sweet 16
current season 14-4
Coach Davis needs to be fired ASAP
He later told Roy he retired too early.Coach Smith retired after Stack and Sheed went pro after their soph year. I think he saw the future and wanted no part of it.
At the same time, if you look at UNC’s history since joining the ACC,* the only 4-year stretches prior to HD becoming head coach where the Heels had 45 or more losses were 4-year stretches that included 2002 (when we went 8-20) and 2020 (when we went 14-19). Absent those years that really skewed the loss column, we’re not used to having as many as 45 losses over a 4-year stretch. What makes that even more frustrating is that those four seasons have involved a much weaker ACC than what he had in the past and we have struggled to beat good teams. In the previous four seasons, excluding our magical tournament run in 2022, we are 11-22 vs. teams that were ranked at the time we played them. Of those 11 teams we beat, five of them finished the season unranked.4 1/2 seasons in...

He stuck around for two more years after that.Coach Smith retired after Stack and Sheed went pro after their soph year. I think he saw the future and wanted no part of it.
Not to mention, winning 20 games isn't a big feat anymore. If we only want to base it off of his record, his record against "peer" schools: 17 - 35. (Q1 games). That is not good enough.
However, record alone is not the reason he is not the right person for this job, yet.
Yeah, that's certainly the argument to fire him. This isn't the ACC of old. He doesn't deliver enough wins against top opponents at the level we should expect at UNC.
Scheyer has won 82% at Duke in the current ACC just down the road....
So Snoop, you don't think they need a home run hire if they fire Hubert? If they fire a loyal family member who hasn't embarrassed the university (Doherty) while navigating a tumultuous era with a 70% winning percentage they'd better make a home run hire.
Yes he did. I did not mean to imply that he retired the very next year after Stack and Sheed went pro, but I do think Coach Smith saw the future and began to plan for the transition once he retired.... Coach Gut and then Roy WilliamsHe stuck around for two more years after that.
I’d love a home run hire, but we’d be considerably better with a double or triple hire, as well.So Snoop, you don't think they need a home run hire if they fire Hubert?
We'll all be hoping they hire a coach that will be more successful but there's certainly no guarantee.I’d love a home run hire, but we’d be considerably better with a double or triple hire, as well.
I’m actually skeptical we’ll get a true home run hire, but I’m confident we’ll get a good coach if we make a move after this season (although I do hope Self stays another year & UK keeps Pope for at least 1 more).
For me the winning percentage is fine.I get that. The 2023 season dinged him big time finishing 20-13 and no NCAA bid after being ranked #1 in the pre-season.
What would an acceptable winning % for fans ?
75%
80%
90%
kintuckee holds the all time winning% record at 76%. UNC is 2nd at 73%
Roy’s last few years overall were better than Hubert’s tenure and those were, on the whole, down years for him. We'll all be hoping they hire a coach that will be more successful but there's certainly no guarantee.
Roy's last few years looked a lot like Hubert's first 4 1/2 and he was a good coach, no?
Yeah, if we’re comparing Hubert’s tenure to the worst 4-year stretch of Roy’s career, that’s not a good thing. Roy retired, in part, because he didn’t think he was any longer doing the job he needed to be doing to keep coaching.Roy’s last few years overall were better than Hubert’s tenure and those were, on the whole, down years for him.
