United Healthcare CEO shot and killed | 1st Degree murder charges ordered dropped

I think in general the reality will turn out to be much more mundane than some imaginations here. Chances are he’s not a pro. He’s not well resourced. He didn’t plan 20 steps ahead. He didn’t leave the country. He’s not making sophisticated moves like body doubles or planting fake DNA. He’s someone with a motive, opportunity, familiarity with guns and a screw loose. He arrived by bus - he left by bus. He’s hiding out somewhere he’s familiar with.
He's arrested in Altoona PA less than 2 hours from his college town. Recognized at a McDonald's. Still carrying the fake ID he used to check into the hostel and carrying the murder weapon.

Not a pro. Pretty mundane. Not well planned.

I wonder if he had a plan to throw the Monopoly money on the CEO after he killed him but got too nervous in the moment and just ran

Why the big deal for this murder? There are murders all over. Do we only get news for rich people getting killed?
Says the guy who has posted at least eighteen times on this and the related health insurance thread.. I quit counting after three pages of post history.
Why is it such a big deal to you?

This was prescient. Unfortunately, also boring. Alas, life doesn't always give us the entertainment we want.

Apparently, he was carrying a handwritten manifesto criticizing health care companies.

Well he wasn’t committed enough to hop on a plane to someplace they couldn’t touch him. And as most people here had observed for several days, he definitely didn’t seem to be a pro once some significant mistakes were coming to light.

But it also doesn’t mean he wasn’t relatively well funded and this wasn’t relatively well planned. This guy was incredibly dedicated and did a ton of legwork to pull off the murder and the escape to the extent that he did.

I’ll be interested to hear more about the motive of course, but also the timeline and whether he had any accomplices. The phone call and the timing of when he and the CEO got to the exact location seem too precise to have not had help.

A fair number of mass casualty events have seen the perpetrator talking about plans prior to the event. Not always clearly but sometimes hints are a bit more obvious than not.

Your suggestion that the FBI (and the other letter agencies) should not be monitoring message boards is surprising. If someone on this board were to make a credible and detailed threat against either Biden, Trump or their VP's, there is a decent chance they would get a once over from the FBI/SS and maybe even a visit.
You do realize how many messages are posted on opinion boards in any period of time....zillions. If something really credible was posted here I'm sure someone(s) would alert FBI, etc. Now once AI is up and running nothing will be private and we'd best be careful of our jest. Then, our Dear Leader may have abolished the FBI by then... for personal reasons. ;-)

Our jests and more. I got a text from my step-daughter this morning that was a picture of a CD case with the sister of a B-list celebrity on the cover (this CD was released ~20 years ago), I replied "That looks kinda like Janet (sister of the step-daughter who sent the text and not her real name, although of course I used my other step-daughter's real name when I replied) when she was in high school," about 3 minutes later my step-daughter who sent the original text texted "Apple AI just said 'CD cover resembles Janet (but of course used her real name) in high school.'" I don't even know what that means, but it seems kinda... something. I guess it's not that big of a deal, anybody with a Facebook page or Instagram or any other social media has plastered pictures of themselves online for years, AI has plenty of opportunity to associate a face with a name, but I still thought it was creepy that it harvested this "info" from our texts...

I have some mental health disabilities in a couple family members and based on my limited research the late 20's is often when it becomes first noticeable. Is this an accurate info. This kid was in that age group.

I posted earlier on the thread, but there is a very loud anti-capitalism contingent on reddit and presumably other social media sites that have violent undertones. "eat the rich" and "bring out the guillotines" will often have hundreds of upvotes. I've always assumed a portion of the comments are Russian bots trying to propagate social unrest, but this seems to show there are real people out there with the belief system. I wouldn't be surprised if you see more violence aimed at the wealthy.
