US destroyed Venezuelan vessel | Defense to focus on “Western Hemisphere and Homeland”

While I understand this sentiment, a lawyer's political beliefs don't determine what kind of lawyer they are. I personally know other lawyers who I agree with on most things and personally like outside of a courtroom that are overly aggressive and contentious inside it. The opposite is true as well. We have an adversarial system. The rationale is that zealous advocacy on both sides of a dispute ensures full development of the issues and facts necessary for a fair decision by the ultimate trier of fact. It isn't perfect but its a much better system than many other countries have. [steps down from soapbox]
You believe people that display zero belief in the rule of law are valuable assets as attorneys?

My point. No one was freaking out about it and calling it the end of Democracy and the beginning of authoritarian rule.
Probably because, in addition to the drone strikes, Obama didn’t have his own personal gestapo in American streets terrorizing the citizens. He also wasn’t bypassing Congress to launch a trade war with the rest of the world. He also wasn’t tearing apart the very institutions that our democracy depends on to keep us a democracy.

How can billions of dollars worth of drugs be pouring into the country from Venezuela, or anywhere, if the borders are closed and/or secure?
Equally good question is how a speed boat with a max range of 300 miles or so is gonna make it feom Venezuela to the US.

A peripheral issue, but hasnt the administration - once again - simply made up new definitions for old words?
Drug smuggling IS NOT "terrorism."
It appears that now "terrorism" essentially means "POC doing bad things."

Terrorism means something that Congress has authorized the president to wage war against so terrorists they are.

The question is what are the next groups that will get the terrorist label.

Well, duh....

Old whites have to be scared of something to keep giving their retirement funds away to the fascists.

The fact that anyone can think this sort of thing is not only OK but desirable is largely a product of the deliberate and systematic demonization of drugs, drug users and, esp. drug "dealers." Of course if someone set off a bomb at a Philip Morris cigarette manufacturing plant or a brewery or distillery, it would be considered an act of terrorism. But when it's foreigners and "drugs," (it hardly matters what kind of drugs) it's perfectly acceptable and even desirable. One more reason all drugs should be legalized...

“…
“This is going to be a major shift for the U.S. and its allies on multiple continents,” said one of the people briefed on the draft document. “The old, trusted U.S. promises are being questioned.”

The report usually comes out at the start of each administration, and Hegseth could still make changes to the plan. But in many ways, the shift is already occurring. The Pentagon has activated thousands of National Guard troops to support law enforcement in Los Angeles and Washington, and dispatched multiple warships and F-35 fighter planes to the Caribbean to interdict the flow of drugs to the U.S.

A U.S. military strike this week allegedly killed 11 suspected members of the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang in international waters, a major step in using the military to kill noncombatants.

The Pentagon also has established a militarized zone across the southern border with Mexico that allows troops to detain civilians, a job normally reserved for law enforcement.

The new strategy would largely overturn the focus of the first Trump administration’s 2018 National Defense Strategy, which placed deterring China at the forefront of the Pentagon’s efforts.…”
