IMO it’s possible to believe both that Maduro was a tinpot dictator who deserved to be removed from power, and also that unauthorized military action without Congressional approval to depose a foreign head of state on sovereign foreign soil is an immensely troubling development. It’s also entirely within the realm of possibility (probability?) given this administration’s ignominious track record that there is no well thought-on plan or strategy for post-Maduro Venezuela, nor is there a plan or strategy for what will be a certain response from China. That’s alarming as we have probably unwittingly given China the formal opening for making a similar move on Taiwan.

Also troubling is that this is a continuation of the typical Republican pattern of the last three Republican presidential administrations putting us into an economic recession while simultaneously launching a war for oil.

Perfectly stated.

“You don't have to like Maduro to find it outrageous that the U.S. invades countries and kidnaps presidents (no matter how despicable they may be).

You only have to defend international law and be concerned that the United States behaves like a bully that intervenes wherever it wants without even the approval of its own Congress.

Before the "fight against narco" justification arrives (years ago it was weapons of mass destruction), remember that Trump has just pardoned Juan Orlando Hernández, former president of Honduras sentenced to 45 years for smuggling 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S.

The same Trump who says to invade Venezuela "to combat drug trafficking."

They don't care about the drugs. They want oil, power, and control of Latin America.”
