UVA's Tony Bennett retires

Given his god-squadding the mind does land on some obvious speculation.

Let’s hope they liven up the tempo now.

Definitely some underlying issue here. His health or that of a loved one. Hate to think that it is basketball-related.
Apparently he’s been planning to retire for a while (not based on any health issues), but people though it would be after this season rather than before.

He allotted 30 seconds for a press conference. It lasted 29 seconds.
Ok, that’s kinda funny.

I know folks who aren’t UVa fans hated the style/pace, but this was an unexpected gut punch for the UVa community.

Timing is….odd. Hoping it’s not something health related with him or his family.

So, grain of salt and everything, but what I heard from a diehard UVa guy is that Bennett has no health crisis or anything. Apparently he went to the AD last Spring to say he was going to retire, but after being asked to give it a week to reconsider eventually got convinced to come back and signed the extension as part of that. But apparently through the very early practice and fall recruiting cycle Bennett decided he just can’t take it anymore — his heart is not in being an NIL GM and managing rotating lineups every season.
