There were rumors after last season that Bennett was going to retire so this doesn't surprise me. What nyc posted makes a lot of sense. Dealing with the NIL/portal BS would be insufferable.

Completely understandable . . !So, grain of salt and everything, but what I heard from a diehard UVa guy is that Bennett has no health crisis or anything. Apparently he went to the AD last Spring to say he was going to retire, but after being asked to give it a week to reconsider eventually got convinced to come back and signed the extension as part of that. But apparently through the very early practice and fall recruiting cycle Bennett decided he just can’t take it anymore — his heart is not in being an NIL GM and managing rotating lineups every season.
That was funny.Ok, that’s kinda funny.
I know folks who aren’t UVa fans hated the style/pace, but this was an unexpected gut punch for the UVa community.
Timing is….odd. Hoping it’s not something health related with him or his family.
I hope it isn't.This is some sort of scandal.
Elite 55-year-old D1 NCAA basketball coaches who have won national titles don’t retire or resign on October 17th.
Like both his stress level and retirement account?Only 55 and odd timing. Something’s got to be up.
I hope it’s not a scandal. I hope he’s just retiring. It’s October 17th. Odds are it’s a scandal.I hope it isn't.
It sort of says something about our society that many people probably have the exact same thought.

Very high risk to reward ratio with that style of play these days.Seemed like a nice guy off the court, but I hated, hated his style of basketball on the court. I'd rather have watched paint dry than watch most of his teams play. Just painful at times. I realize they won lots of games with that style, but it was definitely not fan-friendly basketball. So I'm not sorry to see him go. Hopefully UVA gets a new coach who favors a more up-tempo style of play. At any rate, I hope he enjoys his retirement.
That style allowed them to force better teams to play down to their level. But, as the 1st round upset showed, it also allowed weaker teams to hang around and pull off upsets.Very high risk to reward ratio with that style of play these days.
Can't rule out some sort of "scandal" . I think what you said is more likely. Otoh, running afoul of some sort of authority is increasingly easier. Whether it's a real scandal or a personality conflict would have to be determined. He might have had issues when he realized he can no longer be the dick his father was.Definitely some underlying issue here. His health or that of a loved one. Hate to think that it is basketball-related.
Quit trying to bust my bubble with my Bennet men love!!Can't rule out some sort of "scandal" . I think what you said is more likely.
