Anything exciting? Or annoying? Or just plain ordinary?

I came home last night to police cars in my neighborhood and something going on at the house across the street. A woman and her two daughters live there. There were a bunch of other cars there, and some people outside talking to a cop. One was a girl crying. Found out through a police scanner app they got a 911 call with a bunch of screaming in the background and then the call ended. Searched police records online today and saw the mom was arrested for simple assault and the victim was a minor. Not sure if it was one of her daughters or not since the report didn't list the victim's name. I know both of them are at least teenagers. Just really shocked that happened and would never think she would assault a minor. I think she is back home today. I know, none of my business, but I am curious to what went down.

You might have a better chance getting information if you ask the homeowner. Unless one of the board posters lives in your neighborhood, I doubt that we can provide much information.

In my neighborhood, I didn't win yard of the month. Probably because it's been raining so much I hadn't mowed my yard when they judged.

Also, I have a bird nest by my front door with 5 eggs in it.

Next month I had better get yard of the month.

I mowed Sunday. Glad I got it done before the monsoon arrived.

Fever, I got that beat. The man across the street has allowed people to stay in his house with him. Over the years several people have lived there for a period of time. We feel they have been taking advantage of him, but there’s really nothing we can do and it’s not our business anyway. This past Friday my wife had to leave our home here in Burlington early to take our son to a doctors appointment in Greensboro. About 6:30am I heard a loud boom. I looked out our bathroom window on the second floor of our house. I could see flashing police lights through the leaves but not much else. I went out our sunroom door and walked out into the street. We live on the corner of two streets. The street I was on looks down towards our neighbor’s house. In the street next to his house were three police cars, other law enforcement vehicles and a SWAT armored car. The yard was full of SWAT team members and several police officers. Turns out the people living in his house were violent drug dealers and had taken over his house. The explosion I heard was a diversionary tactic to confuse the people inside. The SWAT team went thru 3 doors and secured the house. The situation is ongoing.

We had a guy move in across our side street during COVID. He’s got some teenage daughters that live with him, as well as a woman who I guess is his wife (she is a different race than the man and daughters, so not sure of their full situation). He’s not friendly at all and they keep to themselves to the point that I didn’t know the daughters live there until I saw one get off the school bus recently.

Anyway, he had a tall dead tree in his backyard of mature trees. Every lot in the neighborhood has mature trees. The homeowner’s insurance of the neighbor behind him contacted him to say please cut down your dead tree because if it falls it could damage either house. A few weeks later he has a tree company bring a full on logging crew to cut down his entire backyard worth of trees, about 1/3 of an acre worth. So now it looks terrible and the nature lover in me is sad. We’re also supposed to get permission from the HOA to make big changes like that. He didn’t, of course, and they say they can’t do anything about it now.

I have some pictures of the scene. If someone can tell me how to post one I will. Nice quiet nothing happening neighborhood and then boom.

The neighborhood I lived in up until 2015 was pretty quite and peaceful.

There was this one house. Always well maintained, but you never saw anyone there. And a weird thing, they had a fence with no gate around the entire back yard.

So, one day we were walking by and notice the front door was open. We walked up to check and found that the front door had the markings of being broken into by a battering ram, like the police use. We went home and googled it and found out it was owned by a drug group and that the police had raided 15 homes in the area a few days earlier. They had the full hydroponics going on, even bypassed the electrical meter for power.

That house stayed vacant for over 2 years while the trial went on, then when the trial was over it was auctioned off.

tl;dr - on or about 630a today I watched SWAT entering a neighbor's house that rents to random people. The current group are - apparently - violent drug dealers. Will update when more is known.

You can drag and drop the pictures into a post. Or click the "Insert Image" button above, between GIF and the smile face, and choose the location where the picture is stored one your computer.

It's even easier from a phone.

A co worker was have a few trees removed from his lot.

For some reason he put a red ribbon around the ones he wanted to save and a yellow ribbon around the ones he wanted cut. The tree company cut all of the trees with the red ribbon. The HOA sued him and he had to pay thousands of dollars to have the trees replaced.

Did he have to still pay the tree company?

I honestly cannot imagine having that sort of work done without me being there. I don’t trust people to do shit right…. I want to talk to them and make sure everybody understands things the same way. No way in hell I’m having a crew to come in to cut down some trees while I’m at work. That’s what PTO is for.

Back in January, a Door Dash driver shot and killed a teenager who was trying to steal his car (which he left running) while the driver was walking up to the customer’s door to drop off the meal. This happened less than a block from our house, right across the park we overlook. We heard the shots and immediately knew that was gunfire. Link
