What's happening in your neighborhood?

Saw a hit and run 2 days ago in my neighborhood that resulted in a death. I just kept driving and didn't contact the authorities because I kinds know the person responsible and snitches get more than stitches in my neck of the woods. But that poor squirrel didn't stand a chance with how fast that car was going. Well, it did do the old double back squirrel move but that's to be expected. RIP squirrel.
 
When I used to live in Berkeley, we had a gang-related shootout about 500 feet from our house. One group of guys saw another group across the intersection a couple houses down from us and each group opened fire. A truck that sitting at the intersection threw it into reverse, jumped the curb, and backed into the tree in our front yard. Eventually, everyone quit firing and took off in separate directions.

Somehow, we don't think anyone got hit. The cops were there forever and took statements from me and my then-wife and all of our neighbors who were home. We never heard if anything came of it, but there weren't any other shootouts in our neighborhood.
 
I live in a small mountain town in California, mostly white working class. Here's what's leading in our community FB page rn...

we have a pond. kids from all over town and sometimes out of town keep trespassing all over folks properties to fish the pond. my property doesn't border the pond but they often cross my property to get to the lots that do. the kids are little shits, i'd say 12-14ish - cursing at old ladies and refusing to leave and whatnot.

much drama.
 
One of my step kids' friends got outed (and subsequently charged) on social media for approaching wild horses at Shackleford the other weekend. Or maybe they approached her. Stupidly she posted it on social media and was identified pretty quickly. I really don't think she knew better. She was within maybe 10 feet of them. The other stupid thing was, there was a foal with two adults, obviously one being the mother. They were grouped up together and grazing and didn't seem fazed by her at all. The foal even approached her at one point. Could've been dangerous if the mother had gotten spooked or riled, but they all seemed very nonchalant about the encounter. The kids' friend got excoriated on social media. I didn't think it was that big of a deal, but it is illegal...

the wild horses near me (corolla/carova) are constantly getting hurt (and occasionally killed) mostly by accident but occasionally on purpose due to human bullshit, so i absolutely get the need for seemingly harsh penalties.

people just need to get it through their thick skulls - admire them at a distance.
 
About three years ago we had to cornish hen roaming our community. Last year that number went up to four. Today I saw the four, plus about 8 new chicks.

Aren't they some sort of delicacy or is it just the English accent?

However, I do live fairly close to public housing. Unfortunately what that has meant that there can be some issues with gun activity. The only other complaint with my neighborhood is snakes. My neighbor up the street got bitten by a copperhead last week and had to go in twice for anti-venom treatment. I have found several in my yard over the years. I don't want to forbid my kids from playing in the back yard, but it does make me kind of nervous...

My mother's house, that she just sold, was in the middle of no where. Last time we were up there we noticed a hole in the tile floor. It went all the way through to the crawlspace. I looked at the angle and went over to the wall and there was a hole in the picture, moved the picture and there was a hole in the wall. Obviously a stray bullet had hit the house, luckily no one was hurt.

Another gun story. A co-worker had a neighbor that he really hated. They were often arguing.

So, one new years the neighbor got drunk and started shooting on his front porch. One of the bullets went through the bedroom wall of my coworkers house, so he called the police. The funny part is he was able to get a restraining order for the neighbor to stay 1000 ft away, which, according to my coworker, meant the guy couldn't go home until after the court date, since his house was less than 1000 ft away. The neighbor was mad and moved, my coworker bought the house as a rental.

It's better than the Mormons.

I ran the last Mormons off and haven't seen any in my neighborhood since. I wasn't mean, I just told them that no soliciting was allowed in the neighborhood, then we debated about myth and soliciting definitions.

@Patb78 Then go to the reply box and select the photo icon in the middle at the top (between GIF and the smiley). Then when the box opens click in the box. Click photo library, select the picture you want to post then click Done at the top. That’s it.

Cornish game hens, as sold in American stores, are just small roasting chickens.

Nothing rare about them. Not a delicacy. A way to overcharge for chicken.
