White Lotus season 3

My wife and I were talking about how it is the most ominous show on television. Every little thing that happens— even if it appears to be something good or inconsequential on the surface— makes you wonder what horrible thing will result from it.
Agreed. It's even hard to know whether or not anyone is telling the truth about anything. There's been a lot of speculation that the hotel owner killed Rick's dad which he seemingly confirmed. However, since they supposedly never found his father, who knows?!? Maybe it actually is his father!! Or maybe Rick has some other nefarious purpose for wanting to see him. Can't wait to find out...

So, what about the dad's accent? Born and raised in Durham and haven't seen the show, and wondering if the Durham accent he is talking about is on point.

There were moments, particularly early in the show where I thought “wait, is the dad character an Australian that moved to the US?”

Thought it was good for a British actor but found it unnecessary. The character went to Duke, but it doesn't mean he was from Durham!

We do know he is from NC, as he said in the last episode that his grandfather was governor of NC. Obviously that doesn’t mean Durham.

It definitely sounds to me like a British actor trying to do some version of a southern accent. I thought that before I actually knew he was British, though I assumed he was British based on the way he sounded.

That said, it does have some semblance of a central NC accent that someone about that age would have, and it’s nice to hear a version of a southern accent that’s not one of the two stereotypical southern accents so often used in film (the upper class coastal southern accent where Rs are not pronounced or the backwoods southern accent where Rs are heavily enunciated).

Let’s all hold off until we hear him pronounce the would “tournament.”
