White Lotus season 3

My wife and I were talking about how it is the most ominous show on television. Every little thing that happens— even if it appears to be something good or inconsequential on the surface— makes you wonder what horrible thing will result from it.
Agreed. It's even hard to know whether or not anyone is telling the truth about anything. There's been a lot of speculation that the hotel owner killed Rick's dad which he seemingly confirmed. However, since they supposedly never found his father, who knows?!? Maybe it actually is his father!! Or maybe Rick has some other nefarious purpose for wanting to see him. Can't wait to find out...

So, what about the dad's accent? Born and raised in Durham and haven't seen the show, and wondering if the Durham accent he is talking about is on point.

There were moments, particularly early in the show where I thought “wait, is the dad character an Australian that moved to the US?”

Thought it was good for a British actor but found it unnecessary. The character went to Duke, but it doesn't mean he was from Durham!

We do know he is from NC, as he said in the last episode that his grandfather was governor of NC. Obviously that doesn’t mean Durham.

It definitely sounds to me like a British actor trying to do some version of a southern accent. I thought that before I actually knew he was British, though I assumed he was British based on the way he sounded.

That said, it does have some semblance of a central NC accent that someone about that age would have, and it’s nice to hear a version of a southern accent that’s not one of the two stereotypical southern accents so often used in film (the upper class coastal southern accent where Rs are not pronounced or the backwoods southern accent where Rs are heavily enunciated).

Let’s all hold off until we hear him pronounce the would “tournament.”

I avoided this thread until I caught up in the season. I've read several people say how slow they've found this season, but I've enjoyed the different storylines.

Looking forward to seeing how the last 3 episodes wrap up the season.

Last episode was my least favorite of the past three seasons. Mike White is getting like George Lucas -- no one can rein him in.

Yeah, all 3 kids are weird characters. The similarities between Saxon's character and the newlywed on the 1st season seem strong.
Interesting observation

I started watching S1 again the other day.

Saxon is a tool and does remind me of him but he isn’t on that level.

That's fair. Mike White certainly had a low opinion of "nepo bros", though. Hell, even his Molly Shannon and Parker Posey characterized have some overlap, in my opinion.

As weird as the siblings are, I did not have brotherly incest in my bingo card. What a strange story line.

I'm completely puzzled who ends up being the shooter at the end. My guess is Gary/Greg ends up being a victim, though.

“… Frank Tramble, the vice president for communications, marketing and public affairs at Duke, said in an email that the university did not approve of the use of its “marks” in the program.

“Duke appreciates artistic expression and creative storytelling,” Mr. Tramble said, “but characters’ prominently wearing apparel bearing Duke’s federally registered trademarks creates confusion and mistakenly suggests an endorsement or affiliation where none exists.”

Mr. Tramble added that the show “not only uses our brand without permission, but in our view uses it on imagery that is troubling, does not reflect our values or who we are, and simply goes too far.” …”

“… Making matters worse for Duke: Mr. Ratliff’s daughter, Piper, who is played by Sarah Catherine Hook, so far seems to be the least problematic member of her dysfunctional family and hopes to spend a year at a Buddhist monastery.

She attends Duke’s rival, the University of North Carolina.”
