lol, we are also grossly underpaid
That's the American way.

Having only worked for one company, I really don't know where I land regarding salary.

I do know I'm thankful for where I am and what I have.

My manager returned to work today.

He's taking the package.

Based on this I may have more leverage in regard to my next role.

For what its worth NC State employees chip in 6%to a defined pension A few yers ago the Legislature put in 14% Typically a lot less-but sometimes
I have been retired 10 years-zero permanent raises. They saying its coming
lol
I was gonna note this. I put in 6% for the pension, employer "matches". I also get 2% deposited into a 401(a). Plus what I set aside on my own.

Let us know how it goes! By "it" do you mean asked for the promo? Or said "screw it, I'm taking the package!"?
I submitted the voluntary separation request.

I have 72 hours to rescind it.

My manager submitted his and he's done.

The director stopped by and talked for about an hour, but he's non committal about the promotion.

How long do they have to come back to you about the voluntary separation request?

July 01 , 2015 I retired because I was offered a 4 mth salary pay "bonus".
At that point working for the McCroy admin was pretty miserable and I had exceeded my 30 years towards a defined pension

Mid Feb.

But after taking with my wife and manger, I'm going to rescind it.

It's not a good time for me to be unemployed..
Don't take this the wrong way, but it's none of your wife's business what you choose to do with your go-forward career. It may impact her, but once she said she wants a divorce she's given up her right to have a say in your future.

Well it's started today. My boss got his notice that his voluntary severance was approved.

I guess we will know the total impact by the end of the month.

I have to move on now. I really wish I had just taken the package.

I think I missed something. Why does your boss leaving via voluntary severance mean you have to move on?

It doesn't.

Read my post again. I meant move on as stop thinking about it and focus on the future. Not move on from the job.

I considered taking the package also, but was unsure if I had enough to retire.

Now, considering the company changes, I wish I had taken it.

You are really lucky having worked for one company. Yeah you've left money on the table, but the stress of jumping and starting...whew it's rough.

I would LOVE to be at my company 6 more years. That would get me to my "fuck off" period where employment is a very nice to have (and if something is bad I can just say fuck it - fire me) for the final 4 years until I retire. Cause my word Corporate America is dog shit.

Do you know the Taoist fable of the farmer?

Do you know the Taoist fable of the farmer?
Maybe...

Very interesting.

I am working on not letting things stress me as much and looking at the potential opportunities. I'm actually warming up to the idea of divorce and being alone and not having the responsibility I currently have.

As for work, there's a ton of opportunity, I'm just not sure i want it at this point in life. I often think how nice it would be to have a very simple job, that I left at the end of the day. Instead on one where I'm still at work trying to finish things for tomorrow's meeting, at 7 PM.

But, I do know that I'm very fortunate. I am very thankful for the opportunities that have given me the chance to be where I am.

Even the situation with my wife, I'm thankful for the 30 years together, or kids, and all the good memories. I'm also thankful for the advise I get from people here. I can imagine the impression that my post may give, yet people are still helpful and understanding and compassionate. It gives me more how for the future.

I think I just ready to start the final chapter of my life.
