A lot of people are registering independent for the flexibility to vote in both primaries. There is also a trend among younger people to register independent.
I think it's because young people feel no particular affinity with either political party and they want everyone to understand that.

And I don't blame them for the no affinity part. But as they get older, hopefully they will realize that they are Dems whether they like it or not, because in our political environment, sane=Dem and GOP = BSC at the party level at least.

This is also why I say to the Lincoln Project people (and CFord!) that they should just admit to themselves that they are now conservative Dems. There's no old GOP and it's not coming back. They are going to have to admit that they chose the wrong team way back when, and it's good that they are trying to make up for it but joining the other team seems more sensible than standing out in the cold throwing stones.

Alright, alright, I'm ready! I'm a conservative-leaning Democrat and proud to be on Team Blue!

My man. Welcome aboard. And don't forget, we're a big tent party. once you're in the tent, you're in. You and I will surely disagree on stuff in the future, but all I ask of my brothers-in-votes is to care about other people -- all other people -- when making political decisions. Seems as though that comes naturally to you, so we'll be good no matter what, assuming neither of us slurp spiked punch or kool-aid in the future.

Hey, you might try it too. It actually feels good to be in a political party where the leaders respect you, rather than lie to your face about everything and expect you to slurp it up and ask for more. It actually feels good to be in a party with leaders building a better tomorrow, as opposed to shitting on America every chance they get. It feels good to belong to a group voluntarily because of mutually shared values and experiences, rather than demands of loyalty to men who really, really, really don't deserve it.

You might be surprised at how liberating it can be not to have to defend perfidy, stupidity, dishonesty, graft, cheating and megalomania at every turn.

Yeah. The GOP is pushing early vote this year. First time in 20 years, at least (and given early vote wasnt as big before that, maybe first time ever). But they are really pushing it. And so the whole "red surge" on EDay is likely a thing of the past.
IMO, the GQP is integrating early voting into their "red mirage" strategy that we saw in 2020. Existing elements of this operation are still in place such as delaying the processing of mail-in ballots in swing states like PA and WI until election day. Build as big of a lead as possible via early voting, delay the processing of ballots submitted via methods that are more popular with Democrats (mail-in), and then claim fraud as Trump's lead shrinks in key battleground states due to votes "being found" (actually just valid ballots being processed). Same plan as 2020 but further optimized.

You mean the party with the Presidential candidate that received exactly 0 votes in the primary? Is that how the Democratic Party shows “respect” to you and its other supporters? Lmao. I know you’ve heard this before in much more meaningful situations, supe, but you disappoint me.

Polling showed that democrats overwhelmingly wanted Biden to step aside. So, yes, that is how the party respects its supporters.
