I don't think it's as clear as you want it to be. Either way, it was not a good decision to have Joe navigating that verbal minefield, knowing he does not always express thought clearly.

I hear your reasoning for supporting Trump, and like others, I can’t see your economic analysis. You have mentioned your sister’s liberal positioning (with disdain) and have mentioned on multiple occasions your dad’s Republican positioning (which you appear proud to be emulating). Is a possible that the latter is receiving a higher weighting than you admit?

True story, so I’ll tell it. My son-in-law (a couple year older than you) came from a very Republican family. Republican and respected enough that his dad was encouraged by the county Republican Party to run for a local race. He declined after receiving the list of positions he had to agree to and just could not support some.

In 2016 my SIL could not bring himself to vote for Trump, and rather than sitting it out he voted for Hillary. His dad, mom, and sister went for Trump. When 2020 came around Trump had lost my SIL’s mom and sister but not his dad. Now in 2024 all four from his family have voted for Harris, but all are still registered R. My SIL has shifted enough that he voted straight D.

Based on other comments you’ve made, you come to this board to get information that you’re obviously not getting from your typical sources. You learned some things here that made you research further and determined you could not support Robinson and Morrow. Good for you. I shared the sequence of events from my daughter’s husband and in-laws because my SIL had to go against the family grain to distance himself from a strictly Republican stance. He became the starting point to eventually even bring his dad to his thinking. Just sayin’.
 
I cannot believe Chris and Susie are getting paid tens of millions of dollars to do this lolololol. I'd have happily tanked Trump's campaign for *several* fewer zeroes in the paycheck.

I'll just say this. If Zelensky wanted to design a campaign that would make "Trump and the Putinidiots" (TM pending) look like the absolutely stupidest people in the history of politics, and was willing to dedicate the entire GDP of Ukraine to that strategy, I don't think he could have done much better than to hire LaCivita and Wiles. They'll be lucky to get the next season of "Tiger King" when all this is over.
 
I think at this point most everyone is decided. I don't think anything matters from here on out and we will find out once votes are tabulated, counted, recounted, reported, contested, and then the legal process.

The only thing that could tip the scales is for more bad weather in swing areas with late deciding low info votes that would have gone more heavily to either Harris or Trump. Low info voters that are barely motivated to vote, won't bother to go out in the rain.

EDIT: I should correct that. A large swath of MAGA are low info voters. I meant the low info true unaffiliated or true undecideds each election.

Punchline: to JD Vance there isn't a normal gay guy vote. So yeah, Trump will at least break even or maybe win 1-0 depending on JD's own internal understanding of his sexuality.

Thanks for sharing. I definitely have more in common with my dad than I do with my sister in terms of political views, but the difference is, I can have a reasonable conversation about politics with either of them - and they cannot remotely have a reasonable conversation with each other because they're both too emotional about it. They both live in a bubble/echo chamber to where they can't comprehend that someone in their family could possibly side with the "evil" of the other side. Honestly I should probably change my registration to Unaffiliated and I may do that soon, because I actually enjoy hearing both sides. Maybe that makes me weird. But that's why I enjoy coming here because I know almost everyone here hates Trump.

I think I have a lot in common with your son-in-law except I don't feel the same way about Trump in particular that he does. I have voted for both Roy Copper and Josh Stein for NC Governor with no second thoughts. I had no issue voting for Mo Green over Michelle Morrow without a second thought, especially since Mo Green did a great job as Guilford County superintendent and that's where my folks are from. I wanted Nikki Haley to win the Republican primary this year and I even made a small donation to her campaign. Truthfully, I think having Trump on the ballot will most likely lead to a loss next week for the Republicans, so even just from the standpoint of wanting "my side" to win, I wish it were Haley against Harris and not Trump against Harris. So I have no allegiance to Trump, but I do think he would be a better president than Harris. I also won't freak out if Trump does lose, because that may make the Republican party move back towards candidates that are more my style such as Nikki and Romney. Or if not, that's fine too and it'll just push me more into Unaffiliated status.

I'll always vote my conscience in any election and I'm never afraid to tell anyone where I stand or how I feel, but I strongly believe in controlling the only things I can personally control, which are a) doing my civic duty and voting for the candidates I believe are best, and then b) spending all my remaining time and energy on my own hustle/dedication/persistence and trying to excel as a husband/father/son/brother/employee in my day to day life.
 
If someone walks into a voting booth and makes stool therein, will that be interpreted as a vote for Trump?
