Yeah, I don't know why people say that. I'll never vote for a Democratic candidate except for maybe local races as long as their party platform is what it is now. I also won't vote for Trump. I'm going to write in Nikki Haley. Then I'll vote Straight Republican all the way down, except for Governor, in which I'll write in Pat McCrory. Under no circumstances will I vote for Mark Robinson, just not a serious person.
What part of the platform don’t you like?

that’s not free speech.

how about you just not read them.
Silly argument. There are plenty of things in society that are designed to protect children from things they aren’t mature enough to handle. Do you just let your kids watch porn or drink alcohol or drive a car at whatever age they want?

Children shouldn’t be subjected to books about “dads” being pregnant or other types of weird indoctrination related to sexuality or transgenderism

So just reading about a certain subject means you are being indoctrinated? Reading about and seeing trans people doesn't make someone trans. Pubs get upset about this stuff but won't do anything to protect kids from school shootings, and don't care about kids being bullied or having the same rights because they are trans or queer, even though it doesn't hurt anyone else. That's weird.

That book should probably not be in lower grade libraries. I don't know that it was.

Out of curiosity, are you okay with the Bible being in school libraries? Talk about indoctrination. What about young kids going to church ti be indoctrinated before their minds are fully developed? Any issues with that?

Yet he wants to deport people that served in the military.

who is subjecting them to it?

It is a shame that you want to continue to outcast children of gay or transgendered parents since they wouldn’t have book representing their families.

No. Cuz that is not "weird." Duh. It is only indoctrination if it is "weird."

Glad you agree that book should be nowhere near young children. Unfortunately you’d be surprised what children’s books you can find in libraries these days.

The Bible shouldn’t be in school libraries either in my opinion but I’m also not that religious so I have no strong feelings either way. I would rather the Bible be in a school library than some of these other books, but I would certainly prefer “neither” over “both”

Parents forcing their kids into religion is absolutely a form of indoctrination. Exposing your kids to religion is fine and nowhere near as concerning or weird as exposing your kids to the idea of pregnant men, but I do feel a tad uncomfortable when people’s young kids become super religious. But again, I’m not very religious so maybe I just can’t relate.

We're getting close to a hijack, so I'll be brief.

The main purpose of books like "Heather Has Two Mommies" (that was the title that the GOP used to fixate on) isn't to recruit kids. Duh. I would have thought you would understand that by now. Rather, it's to teach other children not to ostracize other kids just because their family circumstances are different.

And maybe you think ostracizing children because of the choices of their parents is good. That's the GOP position on a number of issues (including DREAMers). I do not think that is ever the right thing to do. It doesn't matter if you approve of gay parents having children or a trans person having a child. Treating those children badly is inappropriate.

I have autistic boys. Twenty years ago, they would have been stigmatized. Remember all the jokes about "the short bus"? I guess they are still around but they are frowned on, and one reason is that schools have decided that autistic kids, while different, are just as valuable as anyone else. And the world is better for that new tolerance. My boys can't help who they are. Kids of gay parents can't help that. So libraries absolutely should have books that affirm every child's family experience.

Also, I have my suspicions that the book in question is actually written by a right-winger trying to stir the pot more than it already is.

NYT article about the presidential election in Wilson County, NC. As someone from Wilson, it’s depressing but seems about right.

Glad so many people are still voting for Trump because he’s a “business man” and because “they” tried to kill him. What a farce.

Oh absolutely, no doubt. We still have to put in the work every day, we can’t get complacent, and we have to get out the vote. No doubt about that at all. But in every possible, imaginable way I would much, much, much, much rather be in the Democrats’ position right now than the Republicans’, which is essentially a complete 180° turn from how it felt just over four weeks ago.
You are truly the Tim Walz of this board and of course I mean that as a compliment...
